Sigh. This hockey season was kind in that my teams did get far. Just not all the way :(
COLLEGE
RIT men:
-got off to their usual not-so-great out of conference start
-picked Madolora as their #1 and kicked serious ass. Madolora was undefeated until the 2nd to last weekend in conference play(and the last undefeated goalie in the NCAA to that point). He ended the year with the best save percentage in DI(.935) and was 3rd in GAA(1.933)
-Won the regular season for the 4th time in 5 years, 3rd in a row
-Reached the AHA playoff finals, only to get shut out by Air Force 1-0(10 minutes after the ladies lost to Norwich). Madolora only lost 3 times the entire year.
RIT women
-Beasted things their entire year with a 22-1-2 record in the regular season and outscoring opponents 131-22. Also ranked #1 in the country for most of the season
-Beasted harder in the ECAC tournament beating Utica and arch rival Plattsburgh to the title(their first ECAC West Championship)
-Got to host the DIII Frozen Four as the #1 seed after killing Adrian 10-1. Unfortunately they would lose the NCAA Championship game 5-2 to Norwich(10 minutes before the men lost to Air Force). Chamberlain only lost 2 games the entire year.
-Senior Sarah Dagg won the 2011 Laura Hurd Award for best DIII player.
Basically March 19th was an awful day for RIT hockey and my soul.
NHL
Sabres
-Roy was out injured most of the year, and captain Rivet was benched/let go
-plummeted to the bottom of the league.
-Pegula bought the team, OUR SAVIOR
-Jhonas Enroth showed what a beast in net he was. Tiny goalie ♥
-Tiny Nathan Gerbe worked his way into my heart by being kickass and not taking shit(even from giant Chara)
-The Sabres were then able to claw their way back to a playoff spot. The clinched in a beautiful, amazing, nothing hurts overtime game against the Flyers.
-They were 1 overtime goal away from the 2nd round in game 6, only to lose badly to the Flyers in game 7. American hero Ryan Miller had many expletives to say about it.
Canucks
-Despite several injuries throughout the year, they managed to clinch their first President's trophy/#1 seed in the West before anyone else in the Western conference had snagged a spot
-bb Tanev got called up and played 29 games! Then he was concussed :( First RIT player to play in the NHL.
-Defeated arch nemesis Chicago in 7 games; a very stressful time after losing a 3-0 series lead(and then a 1-0 lead in game 7). Then took out Nashville and San Jose in 6 and 5 games respectively. Tanev played the last 2 games in San Jose!
-TIM THOMAS RUINS LIVES, Canucks lose SCF in game 7. The media and reffing pissed me off to new levels. Manny came back in game 2 after a potential career-ending eye injury, and it was glorious. BURRAPAROUND. Tanev played in games 5-7, and did really well. ♥
Why did the Canucks and Sabres have to get knocked out by teams I absolutely can't stand? Ughhhhhh. But I will live. Next year will be better. A 1970 expansion team is going to win the cup, damn it.
I miss hockey already. Is it September yet?
