ROAD TRIP!

Jun 18, 2011 20:56

This happened almost 2 months ago, let me finally post about it. Really long, so props to you if you actually read any of it.

Friday- NY->PA->NJ-NY->NJ->DE: Dinner and a sketchy hotel
The road trip started around 11:30, when I went to pick up Elaine at the train station. She came in from Rochester, and we headed south on 81 from there. We could have just stayed in NY and went through, but I wanted to stop at Sheetz in PA. We spent the time chatting about weird things.
Our first stop was the Bronx, where we were meeting Stef from CT for dinner at Hilary's. She lives on City Island, which was as cute as her apartment. She cooked us perogies and brussel sprouts. After getting stuffed and chatting for a bit, Stef and I got in her car, Agador Spartacus, for the next leg(the TARDIS was sitting this trip out).
We knew we'd be getting to the hotel in DE late, but it didn't help we had to sit in a line for over half an hour to get gas in New Jersey. There were about 12 pumps, but there were only 4 open with 2 people running them because NJ sucks. At least it was cheap.
We fiiiinally got to the hotel around midnight, and were ready to just fall in our beds and die. It was a cheap hotel($50), so we weren't expecting much. But when we got up to our room, the door was randomly open. We shrugged and went inside anyway(cautiously of course), where we found a sink full of nasty black stuff. We called down to the office, and they said they'd come up and move us to the next room. The lady came up, handed us the new key, then walked away. No sorry or anything o__O; So we go to the next room, which seems ok. Then Stef gets to go in bed and there's a huge red stain on her comforter. Whaaaat. It was late and we had to leave early, so she just threw the comforter off the bed and tried to touch as few of the linens as possible. It was so sketch.

Saturday- DE->MD->DC->VA: bad decisions, the wedding, a sidetrip to DC and DRAMA
We got up around 6:45 to get into our wedding attire and head off. We pitstopped at Dunkin Donuts first, and I stupidly decided to get a strawberry coolata. Of course within 10 minutes I had gotten it on my white and black dress. BAD DECISIONS, I'M GOOD AT MAKING THEM. We stopped at a rest stop and I failed at trying to get it out. Luckily I had a black wrap that covered it.
The drive took about 2.5 hours, and we got there a little bit ahead of Hillary, her boyfriend and Elaine(they left from Hilary's around 4am). Stef and I ran all over trying to find a stain stick and a bank, which we managed to get across the street from each other. Then we met up with the others at the extremely less-sketchy hotel we were staying at, piled into Agador and sped off to the church(late, of course).

The wedding was really nice. Some of the stuff the priest was saying made me side-eye, but such is life. The reception was on a Marine base, which seemed much more lax on security compared to my trips to West Point. When we entered, music from Harry Potter was playing(which is so very Lynette). I had a lot of fun hanging out with Jess E, Brittany, Carol and Zehra(who I hadn't known had such a pivotal role in getting Lynette and Andy together!). The bartender was pretty awesome too. A couple of us went up for our second round of drinks; she looked at us, then said "Let me make you something". It was Dirty Sex on the Beach, and it was amaaaazing. Everyone at our table ended up getting it.

It was an afternoon reception, so it was all over around 4pm. Our friend group decided to meet back up at our hotel, which was the start of DRAMA. Hilary collapsed for a mini nap on the bed, her boyfriend was in the corner playing with his phone, and Jess, Brittany, Carol, Elaine, Stef and I were being silly on the other side of the room. After hanging out for an hour or two, Jess, Brittany and Carol departed back to Baltimore, while the rest of us decided to hit DC for the evening.

We bumbled around until we found a parking spot near the capitol building. We decided to walk towards Lincoln, taking pictures along the way. Stef was having asthma issues and Elaine is a bit older than all of us, so they were walking a little farther behind than Hilary, Paul and I. This annoyed Paul greatly, who was already mad we ~excluded him earlier in the hotel while Hilary slept. We(Elaine, Stef and I) kept offering to head back to the car, but he and Hilary said it was fine to keep going. It was my first trip to DC, so I wanted to see shit! 3 miles later, we get to Lincoln. Paul doesn't even go inside. We decide that Stef, Hilary and Paul will grab a cab back to the car, while Elaine and I wait for them to pick us up, and then we'd go to eat. Elaine had looked up some restaurants we might enjoy, so we picked one on her list.
Then we ran into DC traffic. Hilary opted to drive, since Stef wasn't up to driving in it. Tensions in the car were running pretty high, and I was stuck bitch between Elaine and ANGRY!Paul. It was sooo awkward. We were stuck at a light for about 15 minutes, with a sign saying we couldn't turn right because of construction. A bunch of cars were doing it anyway(there was a lane there that people could go straight through, I'm not quite sure why they weren't allowing turns). Hilary was freaking out about it, because she didn't want to get a ticket. Meanwhile everyone in the car is telling her it will be ok, and Paul is like "JUST FUCKING DO IT." x__x So she turns, we drop food plans, and sit in the car for an awkward, silent 45 minutes back to the hotel.

Everyone was really upset, so while Paul and Hilary went up to the room, Elaine, Stef and I decided to go to Denny's. En route, we saw a cool looking Diner, so I was like "LET'S GO THERE!". It was the Silver Diner, which was quite good.

When we got back, Hilary and Paul had already gone to bed. So we quietly got ready and hit the hay. I was on a blow up mattress in the doorway, since we couldn't fit it anywhere else. OH, BUT THE DRAMA WASN'T OVER! Stef snores pretty bad; she has nasal issues of some sort. I accept it and bring headphones(I'm not innocent in the snoring arena either). She fell asleep before I did, because I was checking the internets on my ipod. Shortly after she started, I hear all sorts of noises and expletives coming from Paul. It was really awkward and went on for a long time. Stef kept waking up from it, tried to stay up until he was asleep, finally fell asleep herself, he would go off, and she'd wake up again. It was the worst passive aggressive bullshit I've ever seen. I didn't want to go to sleep and face his wrath either! So Hilary, trying to play peacekeeper, offers to get him earplugs. He makes her go by herself >:[ I can't even begin to say how much I hate that douchecanoe. After she got back, things were finally peaceful.

Sunday- VA->DC->MD->DE->NJ->NY->CT
Elaine, Stef and I got up before Paul(I think he was faking sleep tbh). We got ready, packed our shit, and decided to peace out as quick as possible. Paul was up by the time we left, and none of us bothered to say goodbye to him(despite Hilary asking Stef to). We spent the rest of the trip bitching about what a crazy dick he is. Yay. We opted to have breakfast back at the Silver Diner, because it was indeed that awesome.
We also stopped at Wawa in our travels back, which was my first trip to one. I wasn't very impressed based on how people go on about them. Sheetz is better :P I didn't actually eat anything there though, so I guess I can't truly judge.
We also stopped at the University of Delaware to visit my cousin Shannon. She walked us around campus, we ate lunch at a bagel/sandwich shop, and she took us to a yummy cupcake shop(the kind that charges $3-4 for one). I saw a ton of PSP brothers walking around, which made me smile. It also reminded me I need to continue to convince my cousin to rush.
We stopped in NJ again for gas, which was again LAAAME. Then we drove back to the Bronx to pick up my car. There was a comical moment where I left my gps in Stef's car and she drove off, and then my reception sucked so I couldn't get ahold of her right away. But we sorted it out, and the rest of the trip to CT was fairly uneventful.
For the evening, Stef's boyfriend came over and we chilled. That was the night the Bin Laden stuff went down, so we mostly just watched that on TV.

Monday- Chilling in CT
Elaine spent the day shadowing Stef at work(they're both into Ophthalmic Photography), while I was domestic. I cleaned a bit and did the shopping for our dinner. I did meet up with them for lunch, where we had takeout from 99 Restaurant. Their salads are delicious!
The evening was again fairly mellow- Andrew came over again and we made ziti and grilled peppers and mushrooms. Then we watched HP 7.

Tuesday- CT->MA->NY: back home :(
We peaced out of New London in the afternoon. The drive home was pretty bland. We stopped off in Springfield, MA to grab some gas and eat lunch at a deli. We got back with an hour or so to kill before Elaine's train, so we walked around Carousel mall for a little bit.

Phew. In other news:
-I finished Goblet of Fire this morning. I'm still on track!
-I won an auction yesterday for a game-worn RIT home jersey :D I got the one I wanted, though I paid more than I wanted to because someone ran up the price at the last minute. Sigh.
