Title: Falling feels like flying Rating: NC17 for very adult themes Summary: Just breathe. Warnings: Asphyxiation as comfort. Mentions of Spike/Dru Prompt: hc_bingo: Falling With thanks to theladymerlin for the read-through
Humans are strange, aren't we? Taking comfort and pleasure in something like our own tenuous mortality is counterintuitive, but we do. In all fairness, I never understood the "Choking party" fad though.
I thought I'd leave a comment to say "Hey, I read this, please don't feel neglected" but... I couldn't tell you in all honesty that I enjoyed it. Not because you're not an excellent writer, just because some things aren't meant to be out-and-out fun.
Thank you, that's probably the most honest statement I've read in a long time. To be honest I don't expect many to like it, or enjoy it for that matter. Unfortunately my muse doesn't always play nice. :)
Mine doesn't either. Sometimes I think the purpose of any writing is to frame human weirdness in a way that's digestible, and this definitely played with an idea of the human strange. Writers who play nice are only ever read in kindergarten.
But I'm all about honesty, and I'm all about letting people know their work is seen.
Wow. Very disturbing imagery, for me. I have asthma, so the thought of having my breath taken away from me has always frightened me. Sometimes it gives me nightmares. But for some reason, it also fascinates me at the same time. So this story had me gritting my teeth and swearing, even though I didn't want to stop reading.
I liked the low-key way you dealt with the subject - it gave the story a calm presence that helped keep it from becoming an emotional roller coaster ride, but didn't stop me from feeling the tension that was woven into it. Well done.

That doesn't mean I won't be returning though...
