Breakup of Wilkins Ice Shelf, Antarctica
I saw a little blurb in today's NYTimes from Reuters saying that the thin ice bridge connecting the Wilkins Ice Shelf with two neighboring islands finally shattered. Every time we have an unseasonally warm day (like today, when it's 60F) hemorrhoid boy two houses down cranks up his car stereo, guns his engine and generally makes mahem, much to the dismay of everyone else on the block. Spring
Well, I've gotta say that Spring is now officially here. I've heard Robins for the past few days, and yesterday I saw one in our back yard. He was VERY red in the breast. Siskins and... You scared the Shiat out of me!
Siskins: we've had so many Pine Siskins at the feeders lately that it's almost like an Alfred Hitchcock movie! I've been seeing them since about December, but wasn't sure if they were immature Gold Finches. They now outnumber the Gold Finches. Frozen in Indifference
Yesterday I was listening to All Things Considered on NPR and heard an interview with Charlie LeDuff, a reporter and columnist for The Detroit News. The story was about the remains of a man frozen in ice at the bottom of an elevator shaft in an abandoned warehouse. He had been there at least a month.
