Babies, apparently

Oh my gosh! I am such a bad friend. I've just scared myself. I got a text message a while ago from someone saying that "our little baby boy was just born", bla, bla. I had no idea from whom and I felt a bit bad about it, because it would be awfully sad for the poor grandma or aunt or best friend or whatever that didn't get the happy news. I was ( Read more... )

No. You are indeed NOT a bad friend! You are my best friend! You are a very caring and loving person and we are all deeply fond of you!!

If you had lost contact or are about to lose contact with this girl it is not so strange that you didn't know about the pregnany. Apparently she hasn't told you, right? Just because you were very close at that time back in school doesn't necessarily mean you are close forever *knowing from experience*.... I sure don't know the number to people's mobile phones by heart either!

You are so right! I can't help that she didn't tell me that she was pregnant and didn't tell me she apparently changed her phone number. I have her obviously old cell phone number in my cell phone, so it would have come up and not been so confusing. I'm thinking though maybe it's not a baby. It was supposedly 1974 g and 45 cm. That is tiny, right? Maybe it's a puppy or she has a parrakeet called Åke, maybe he had a baby...

Oh my. That is indeed very tiny. I would say that either something is wrong with the baby, or it was born way too early - or both. Anything less than around 3 kg is tiny, and that is 1 kg less! 3,5 kg and 50 cm is considered "normal".

You see, if anyone is to feel guilty, it's her. Not telling about a pregnancy and not telling about a changed phone number.....

On to something entirely different, concerning your last sentence: Do you know if the word parrakeet (or parakit in Swedish) is related to the French perroquet? When I saw the word I started thinking about it but I have no books in which to check it up.

Apparently she was going to tell the people who didn't know before the due date, but her water broke 7 weeks early and she's been in hospital since then. Baby was born 5 weeks early, but despite being absolutely tiny, he's fine. A friend of Karin's had a baby that was 2.4 and that was just the smallest kid ever, and this one is even smaller. But I'd expect it from her. She's always been kind of "tiny bird-like".

Parrakeet is apparently a small long-tailed kind of parrot, so I think definitely. My dictionary says from "C16: from Sp. periquito and OF paroquet parrot, from ?". :-)
