heysay_fanfic He never talks about the divorce, which worries everyone in JUMP. Yuto and Yamada corner him when it first happens, because they're his closet friends at this time in his life and JUMP figures if he's gonna open up, it'll be to them. They're wrong though, disappointed when he just shrugs and says, "There's nothing to say, my parents are divorced and what's done is done. Excuse me," and he gets up to leave, his eyes far away and his shoulders stiff.
Over the course of the year, everyone tries to get him to open up. Yabu squeezes his shoulder and Chinen cuddles up against him, his eyes big with worry but he just shrugs them off, gently pushing Chinen off his lap and wandering over to Yuto. Inoo and Ryutaro corner him and he just rolls his eyes, frustrated as he forces his way past them. Daiki and Takaki bring him sweets, he eats them with a smile but never answers their questions. Yuto and Yamada know better than to try at this point, and he can see the questioning looks in Hikaru's eyes but the boy is too scared to voice them out loud.
Eventually the members leave him alone, begrudgingly accepting the fact that he's not going to open up. It takes a little bit longer but they eventually accept his words; that he's fine, and what's done is done.
A year goes by and then another one, and it's almost 2010 when it's brought up again. Hikaru watches him as he sits in the corner, guitar in his lap as he plays a soft tune. It's gentle but it's also sad, and it gives Hikaru the courage to finally ask what he's been meaning to, all these years.
"You miss you mother, don't you?" and everyone turns towards Hikaru, eyes wide and mouths open in surprise.
He stops playing, his hands dropping to the floor as he looks up, and there's no tears in his eyes but there's a definite sadness, a heartbreak that everyone is now seeing for the first time.
"Yes," is all he says before turning his attention back to his guitar, playing the same medley as before.
