Original Story:
A Letter by
dephi Jin stands in the middle of Yamapi and Kamenashi. He looks around him. He can see people are crying. Kame has tears roll down on his cheeks. Koki, who stands besides Kame is rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand. Nakamaru never once lift his head, ever since the ceremony begins. Even Junno, who never fails to smile despite of anything, has lost his cheerfulness. He could even hear Yamapi tried to suppress his sobs beside him; perhaps, he too is doing the same thing as his best friend.
There are not many people who attended this gloomy ceremony. Just family and some close friends of Tatsuya only. Some of them he knows while others he doesn’t. Then he looks up to the person standing in the front row. Or more specifically, the profile of one of his best friend, Nishikido Ryo.
Ryo has this faraway look, like he still couldn’t believe what had happen and this is all a bad dream. The disbelief look that attaches on Ryo’s face breaks his heart, knowing that the sudden departure of Tatsuya is the cause of that look.
People are starting to leave the cemetery after the ceremony has completed. Even his band mates slowly walk towards the car park, after giving the final respect to their beloved friend. Yamapi slowly tugs him. Jin just looks at Yamapi before shaking his head.
“You and Kazu go on ahead. Wait for me in the car. I have 1 more thing to do.” Jin tells Yamapi. Yamapi nods in understanding, when he sees that Jin is looking at Ryo when he says that. Walking ahead, Yamapi wraps his arm around Kame’s shoulder, trying to offer some comfort to the younger man. Meanwhile, Jin is walking towards where Ryo is standing.
Flashback
Jin is in the hospital, accompanying Tatsuya for that day since they usually take turns to take care of him while he’s in the hospital. Tatsuya is sleeping peacefully in his bed but you could see the paleness and how the sickness is beginning to show on his face and body. While Tatsuya usually has a small frame and a thin body, it is still healthy but now, everything had changed since they have learned about his sickness. His health is slowly declining and the glow of his smile is not quite there anymore.
Jin sighs as he looks at the angelic face of Tatsuya, not knowing if he should really not to let Ryo know about Tatsuya’s condition. Half of him is screaming for him to tell the truth to his best friend but another half understand why Tatsuya did that, why he refuses to tell Ryo about his current situation. But still, it doesn’t seem right to leave Ryo in the dark like that.
While Jin is still complementing about what he should do in his mind, Tatsuya stirs from his sleep. Seeing Jin, he smiles a bit.
“What are you thinking about, Jin?” He asks with small voice. Jin is a bit startled since he doesn’t realize that Tatsuya has already awake.
“Nothing really, Tat-chan.” He assures. Tatsuya just nods and looks out to the window beside the bed. After a few moment of silence, suddenly Jin looks up to Tatsuya.
“Are you still not going to tell Ryo about your condition, Tat-chan?” Jin asks, a bit hesitates.
“Positive, Jin. I don’t want him to worry about me. Besides, he’s rather busy right now, ne.” Tatsuya says.
“But I’m sure he wants to know if anything is wrong with you, Tat-chan. No matter how busy he is.” Jin tells Tatsuya. Tatsuya just sighs, knowing that Jin won’t let this matter off.
“I know that, Jin but if I tell him right now, he will start worrying and then he won’t be able to concentrate to his works, and he might even skip his works or his rest, even though he needs it. That’s why I don’t want him to know yet, Jin.” Tatsuya tries to reason with Jin.
“But it is really unfair for him not knowing about this, you know. This is a serious matter. And he will be mad if he found out that we know about your condition but fail to inform him about this.” Jin says.
“I know, Jin. I know. I promise I tell him after he finish with his tour with Kanjani8 and the filming. Besides, it’s not like I told you guys about this anyway. You are the one who find out about this by yourself.” Tatsuya says.
“And I’m glad that we did. If not, we never knew what is really happening to you lately.” Jin says, with a scolding tone to Tatsuya for keeping this important thing from him and his band mates. Tatsuya just chuckles lightly at that.
“The visiting hour is almost over. I should be going. I’ll come back to check on you with Koki and Kazu tomorrow, ok.” Jin says, ruffling Tatsuya’s hair as he stands. Suddenly he is stops by Tatsuya’s grip on his wrist.
“Jin, wait!” He says, as he takes out something from under his pillow. Shoving it in Jin’s hand, he immediately looks away. “I want you to keep that as a safe keeping. In case something happen to me, could you give that letter to Ryo.”
Jin looks at the letter in his hand and then at Tatsuya. “Tat-chan….” Then, Tatsuya looks at him with pleading eyes. “Please Jin…” Jin could only nods at Tatsuya silent begging.
“I really hope it won’t come to this, Tat-chan.” He says before he walks out from the room. “I hope so too, Jin.” He hears the soft reply from Tatsuya before he shut the door behind him. And that night, Tatsuya’s heart stops beating.
End of Flashback.
“Ryo…” Jin calls his friend, noting that a single tears fall down his face.
“What is it, Jin?” Jin hears Ryo asks as he tries to pretend that nothing has happen. Knowing that, Jin feels obligate to try to be as normal as possible. “Err… He left a letter, for you." Jin says as he gives the letter to Ryo and smiled sympathetically to Ryo before leaving him alone.
Feeling that he is standing far enough for Ryo to notice him, he stands under the tree to watch Ryo. He watches as Ryo opens the letter and begin to read it. And he watches with a constrict heart when he realizes Ryo is crying as he is reading it. But at the end of it, he watches as a smile makes its way on Ryo’s face. Jin sigh with relieve. While the smile is not a happy one, but it is still a meaningful such one. The he watches as Ryo folds the letter and put it in his pocket before walking away after looking at the tomb one last time.
Look after him for me, Jin. And don’t forget me… Jin swears he could hear Tatsuya’s voice being carried by the wind and just nods. You'll remain here forever, Tat - chan, at least inside Ryo's heart, and mine…
The End
