Fucking Wild.

A fan I have always been of certain black feminists such as bell hooks and Angela Davis. They really altered the way I perceived feminism. I first read hooks when I was 18 (maybe 19?) my exboyfriend saw the book Feminism is for Everybody on my book shelf and mentioned, "hey, we are going to study her in Shannons feminism class" (I was 19, since ( Read more... )

i think this whole thing is really interesting. my friend actually sent me a link the other day that showed the "black panther coloring book", which was really put out by the FBI to make the black panther party seem violent and hateful. i can't remember the link right now, but the lengths they went to were almost hysterical.

but yeah. i just read her open statement. amazing.

has there ever been a manifestation of communism that worked well? i'm truly curious, because i know about some of the major instances of communism and i know things aren't or weren't great: the soviet union had purges that killed millions, cuba and china have horrible human rights records, north korea is obviously not a nice place to be...

i just don't see how one of the basic tenets of communism as an economic system, central planning, can ever be seen as a good thing. in addition to the infeasibility of legislating economics, power is an inevitably corrupting force, regardless of how well-intentioned the revolution might be. i suppose the capitalist pigs have succeeded in brainwashing me, but communism is just a bad idea...

Cuba has horrible human rights records? No more horrible than any other country I assure you. Cuba currently has the highest literary rates, best healthcare system, lowest crime rights all in the western hemisphere and they have the best womens right in comparison to all of the latin countries. Basically the only downfall of it all is the economy which we can thank our good ol' country for. Unless Cuba turns into a democracy - we will not lift the sanctions. I too, believed that Cuba treated their people horribly, I thought communism was synonomous with a dictatorship for no real reason othan than I heard that Fidel was bad and the people escaped from Cuba often to live in America. Do you remember the case of Elian Gonzalez? The 6-year old Cuban boy who arrived to N. America on an intertube (his mother died along the trip). Well I remember their being a huge fight. his father wanted to remain in Cuba, while his aunt and uncles wanted him to stay in the US. I remember thinking, "who by choice would want to stay in Cuba? Why did ( ... )

Granted - You can use the argument of treatment of homosexuals in the late 60's and early 70's - but Fidel and the government has done a complete 180 with how he views and treats homosexuals since the 1980's - which we cannot say for the USA nor most countries (just look @ the current treatment of homosexuals in the good ol USA) The UMAP camps? After Fidel found out how individuals in the camps were being treated, he promptly had them shutdown. Execution of Batista loyalists or counter-revolutionaries? Extreme I agree - but the numbers are only in the hundreds, while most countries reach the thousands if not millions. Every country usually has a violent revolutionary beginning - including our country. The USSR was actually being run pretty decent until Lenin died and Stalin took over in 1924. I honestly have not done much research into China's communist revolution, but I do know they currently do have good human rights-especially toward women. but I will soon - and Vietnam? The only reason we went to "help" the vietnamese was ( ... )

"The idea of a feminist revolution isnt about taking power over men, it's about a true revolution to end patriarchy and it's damaging ideals and machoism. The feminsts don't want to take on a mans role and power, they want to be who they are."

so true. i want nothing to do with taking power over men. i already know i have alot of power that they dont have, the ability to bear a child. the ability to bleed out of my cunt every month, which contrary to popular belief is an an amazing power that us wimmin posess and take for granted. but what it all comes down to in the long run is a fight for equality, rather it be gender, racial, political, etc. its always a power struggle with the rich white male. who posesses the power over all of us. the less you consume, and the less you follow, and the more you protest, is really how we are going to win this!

Our bodies are natural, and in most cases we are bound to nature - we do not control whether or not we can give birth (Im not talking about birth control, I'm talking about women who do not have the ability to bear a child - in most cases, that cannot be reversed) or bleed from our cunts, therefore I do not consider it necessarly an ability if you catch my drift. ;-)

I believe it's always a struggle against white male ideology. Society, whether black/white/red/yellow/brown male or female, can posses this trait and way of thinking. Symbolism is what our culture runs on rather than more concrete situations and as long as capitialism reigns and patriarchy rules society... It doesnt matter who is in the lead - even if it's a black woman, she just needs to have that oppressive ideology. Hell, even a homosexual can be in the lead as long as he/she keeps it quiet (much like Roy Cohn).
