Day 3:
For those of you who don't know, Bete` Noire is quickly moving to Philadelphia's icon status.  She is an amazing girl, and it would not be a stretch to call her a body artist.  She can move and contort into almost any form.  She was an obvious choice for this project not only because I thoroughly enjoy her precense but to make a sculpture you ( Read more... )

so.... i appears as though i get to be the dick, and say that i hate your new images. they don't look finished to me. and maybe they aren't but from what you've been saying about them i think they are, so i'm going to talk about them like they are. there's no feeling in them, to me. they don't evoke any emotion. it looks like you tied some girl's hair up and shot it on a wrinkled back ground. The last one of Bete comes pretty damn close for me. but the back ground is bugging the hell out of me. i'm now going to quote you and say "I think you need to push this concept a little farther." i like the idea, it just doesn't look finished at all, in any way. now that im done with my unsolicited critique, what days are you going to be down at school, i have some new stuff i want to show you.

well first off i think i would try to expand on the tv idea. have something interacting with the hair and rope. by themselves, the hair and rope look pretty cool, but there's no real tension (non-physical) to it. in the shot with the tv, there's interaction, and given the right item filling in for the tv, it could have been a balance between good and evil, or a play on the scales of justice. the thin g that bugs me most about all of these is the background. it looks like something you'd rip into a photo 1 kid about. if u want wrinkles or movement or something like that then make it wrinkled. crumple up some paper and then un-crumple it and wall paper a wall with it. or maybe crumple up some paper and cover a wall with the crumpled up balls. that's just the first thing that came to mind.... so there you go... you have untill next week to show me some finished pieces...:)
