To Wii or not to Wii

I'm not a gamer, not really. I like playing games, but the games I like are like Portal and World of Goo. But I've seen that Wii has some great party/group games that are fun to play. And it has all the classic Nintendo games, and maybe, just maybe I'd finally get good at Mario Kart. Mostly, I've heard fantastic things about the Wii fit from EA ( Read more... )

I'd say get a Wii and an SD card that will hold atleast 2 gigs (2 gb is like $5-$10). With that you can download games to your hearts content. The only mitigating factor is if you might have to buy a Classic Controller (or for less, and gamecube controller) to play some games, and an extra Wii-mote for others (which isn't the cheapest).

360 is getting better for casual games, particularly though downloadable content. However, to get a 360 with a hard drive we're talking $300+, plus, unlike the Wii, you have to pay to get online with XBox live, to download things.

You know, it's frustrating to have friends who have ALL of the consoles, because I realize I really like games that are only available on one or another. :-P

Like Puzzle Fighter, Katamari, that spaceship racing game (zone? you advance through zones), of course Rock Band, Little Big Planet, etc.

I seriously need a new job to make more money. Or maybe to move in with a roommate to have less expenses.

But maybe if I get *one* console, I can improve my skills so that at gaming parties I won't feel so bad about playing with you more experienced people... :-P And then still get to play the games I won't be able to own...

By the way, thanks for the feedback. That helps. I'm still really leaning towards the Wii. I think it might be the best starter console.

Any thoughts on used consoles? I checked out ebay, but ebay sort of scares me...

Not sure... there's Game Dude in the valley, that used to be good for this sort of thing.

That depends on whether you enjoy games that require one to shed one's dignity, swish it around in the toilet and then set fire to it (Wii) or games where 12-year-olds call you a shit-eating buttfag and then shoot you in the groin (xbox).
