i don't take a lot of pictures. i should, but i usually end up breaking the camera. but i collect things. and i'm realizing the value of that. pictures capture a particular moment- often a forced smile, the same face. a staged event, but not the scene. objects require you to retell the story. relive the moment. it's similar to movies vs books...in

I totally disagree with you about your theory of pictures. It is true pictures capture a specific moment in time, yet you go on saying how it is a staged event, a forced smile, same face, etc. I do agree with what you said about books vs movies. I like what you also said about objects. But pictures require you to retell the story as well. It does create the scene. It's true when you read a book you have to imagine everything and make it your own, but pictures actually capture that specific scene. It IS the scene. It doesn't have to imagined, it's fact. I know my argument isn't very strong, and I'm in lazy-mode and would rather not use my brain cells at the moment, but I'll write later if I so desire. I know you're not saying pictures are bad, but appreciate them just the same as an object. I mean if you didn't think the same about pictures you wouldn't have purchased school yearbooks for all these years

I think he was referring more to the fact that a picture can't be taken without changing the scene; just having the camera present inherently changes the group dynamics.
