curb your enthusiasm - one of the most, if not the most, original tv show ever aired. goes well with my love of improv as most of the material is improvised after a rough plot is sketched out. despite all this, it is an amazingly difficult show to watch; larry david is so embarrassing to the entire human race. but so funny.

cyberpunk - wikipedia, the best website in the world, outlines cyberpunk, a subset of science fiction: cyberpunk writers tend to use elements from the hard-boiled detective novel, film noir, japanese anime, and post-modernist prose to describe the nihilistic, underground side of the digital society which started to evolve in the last two decades of the twentieth century. cyberpunk's dystopian world has been called the antithesis of the mid-twentieth century's utopian science fiction visions, as typified by star trek. i love dystopia. i love nihilism in literature. i love film noir. and i love a good hacker story. the masterpiece neuromancer and the burning chrome short story collection by william gibson are amazing. and snow crash by stephenson is amazing as well. definitely my favorite little literary subgenre.

czech-ered bathing suits - an odd one. first applied to the czech national water polo teams. during the olympics they wore checkered speedos. that's just fucking badass. this polo season, we got blue and gold checkered speedos for team suits, and it was beautiful. and the last press (choate's sports "newspaper") had my ass (inside that speedo) on the cover. i've always wanted to be on the cover.

dancing in parking lots - i mean, come on. you know you've done it. there's something about the asphalt and the anonymity and the usual late-nightness. it's fun.

dandy warhols - pure. happy. indie. pop. if "indie-pop" isn't a contradiction (which i don't think it is). good lyrics, catchy guitar, and some great overall songs. 13 tales from urban bohemia is an amazing cd and their other two prominent ones, the boringly-named the dandy warhols come down and the well-named welcome to the monkey house, are very very good as well. memorable chorus: "i never thought you'd be a junky because heroin is so passe."

darjeeling - i love tea. i love tea a lot. in fact, really good tea is my second favorite caffeinated beverage, second only to something coming up on the list. darjeeling, aside from being the tea with the best name, is also my favorite overall. a slight hint of almond makes it truly special. i'd like a cup right now. in fact, i'll get one right after this.

dihydrogen monoxide - water, to the common folk. the hometown of my good friend jay li in orange county, california passed a ban on dihydrogen monoxide. because they're stupid. that said, i really like water. i swim in it every day. i drink it a lot. i'm kinda based on it; in fact my entire existence can be explained as a clever way for water to move uphill.

dogma - another kevin smith movie. he doesn't need to be on the list that much. that said, dogma is a simply amazing movie. probably the only one that affleck is good in. alanis morrisette is god. that's fucking hilarious. and alan rickman is the metatron, the voice of god. that's fucking awesome. salma hayek, matt damon, and chris rock are awesome too. i need to stop using the word awesome.

douglas adams - i. am. obsessed. with. 42.

dr. pepper - best soda ever. so what if it's like carbonated prune juice. it's great.

dreaming - it may sound odd, but i really like to dream. i really savor remembering dreams in the morning. also, ever since i learned how to make myself lucid dream it's much much more fun.

drum&bass - crazy jungle beats. and techno. and... why the hell does every person involved in the entire fucking genre have a really really weird accent that makes him impossible to understand? and why does it make them also sound really entertaining?

dub - new school dub, that is. i like the old school pure jamaican dub some too, but all in all the more techno, punk, soul, and funk infused stuff is great. to hear a good example of the exact kind of dub i'm talking about, get ahold of the track "legal dub" by sublime. and the word "dub" is symmetrical.

eastern europeans - well half of me is eastern european. and i like that half. i'm also a low-grade rusophile. and as a general rule i like people with names that end in -ski, -sky, and -stein. plus borscht gets a bad rap.

edward norton - no one can play a neo-nazi, drug dealer, and white collar schitzo quite like eddy. very good in the 25th hour, fight club, and american history x. other films too, but they escape my mind.

ee - great little west coast band signed to the asian man records label. very very chill and melodic guitar and some really awesome cello. why do i like cellos in non-classical music. i recommend their lps ramadan and for 100 we try harder. awesome asian american geek-rock.

ender wiggin - the protagonist of ender's game and the subsequent genius works of the series by orson scott card.

espresso - ah. one of my drugs of choice. i love this shit. if i had the choice i'd drink a quadruple shot every morning. but the cheapest decent espresso machine that doesn't require a week long barista course. though i wouldn't mind being a trained barista.

essaying - essays get a bad rap because people are only used to writing those shitty analytical and critical pieces. not that those are all bad. most of them, however, are. i'm talking about interesting essays. the kind you'd find in the new yorker. yeah.

fight club - based on the book by chuck palahniuk, this movie is simply amazing. pretty good acting (brad pitt and edward norton, not to mention helena bonham carter) plus crazy fights and great cinematography. i recommend highly.

film - i am a movie snob. i've seen far too many. i also like film more than digital, both in motion and stills. but i have no way to shoot motion film and i'm too cheap for the whole developing process to use 35mm. which is a pity since i have access to a pretty decent canon slr. but oh well; convenience over function, i suppose.

freedom - well i border on libertarian in my political views, so this makes sense. also, i think freedom is generally very important.

futurama - mat groening's forgotten child. since they canceled it, i have to be content with cartoon network reruns and mpeg bootlegs.

george carlin - in my humble opinion, the best stand-up comic ever. and his books are hilarious. too many memorable one liners to count.

george orwell - british novelist. though he's a bit too allegorical for some, i'm a big fan of animal farm and 1984. maybe it's that obsession with dystopia again.

perhaps i'll write a real entry one of these days. but what's the point?
