Community Rules

May 19, 2010 19:03

Thank you all so much for your comments to my last post! It was extremely helpful for me to get an idea of what we would all like to see for this community.

I wanted to let you know I posted a few short rules on the community profile page which I wanted to explain in more detail here. These can change at any time as situations develop, of course. Here are the rules and my reasoning behind them:

1. No spam, threats, harassment, or flames. Pretty self explanatory!

2. Please put especially large pictures, many pictures, or long posts behind an LJ cut. We have not had a problem with this, but I felt I should put it in the rules just in case.

3. Keep discussions polite and civil. Personal issues should be kept off the community as much as possible. I know there have been some disagreements recently which have caused a few problems, but I would like to remind all that disagreement is sometimes part of discussion, and not all differences of opinion are attacks or harassment.

4. Anonymous commenting is off. As of this evening, I changed comment settings over to registered LJ users only. I thought long and hard about this, and it is not a decision I took lightly, as I personally have not seen any of the alleged abuse by an anonymous poster that a few members referred to yesterday. However, with anonymous posting comes a host of other issues that the community very rightly does not want to deal with, so anonymous commenting is off.

5. Please do not screen or delete replies to posts made to this community. If there is a problem post or comment, leave it and let the maintainer know. I will check the community often, but if I miss something, contact me. Also, if you can't comment to a post because someone has it screened, or if someone deleted your reply, let me know that too. You can reply to me here on this post or contact me via the contact information on the profile.

My goal as maintainer is to not moderate anything unless I absolutely have to. We are all adults and I think we can all behave accordingly, and less moderation means more free flowing of ideas.

Well, that's enough of that! Time to move on to the topic at hand and no more of this boring administrative stuff.
