RIP Edward Hardwicke

Just got the word from a tweet Mark Gatiss posted. There's a short announcement in The Stage:

"Edward Hardwicke, who played Dr Watson in the Granada television adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, starring Jeremy Brett, has died at the age of 78.

He always brought such a lot of life to every role he played :) that it is strange to think he is no more. RIP Edward Hardwicke.

That is sad. I have images of our Watson in my mind now. I think I'll have to get out the DVDs.

I was also very sad to learn of EH passing, but thought to myself,I bet JB was there to meet and greet him!
EH was such a kind and caring man, a real gentleman.
