Can I just say how much I love, love, love, love, love the flock of tropical birds that seems to have taken up permanent residence in the trees all around my house

They are Nanday Parakeets -- although much larger than the budgies sold as parakeets. A South American import, but hale and hardy and very opportunistic. It's a combination of loose pets and 40's era movies releasing them for shooting of "jungle" movies. They've established self sustaining communities throughout Los Angles county.
I love walking out in the morning and hearing the flocks of Nanday's overhead.
Thank you. Now I know what jungle birds I'm living among. These ones had been here seasonally as I recall, but they usually left this area by February I think. This year there's been this long battle with crows in the trees before me. I can't see the big picture, but the past few weeks it seems the parakeets have won the territory.
You get a flying wall of green Nandays ... and all I get is a galaxy of Starlings (imported from England), a quiver of sparrows, a chatter of chickadees, a shell of turtle doves, a lineup of cardinals and a peck of grackles.
