I gave myself a splitting headache last night... from clenching my jaw and gnawing on my tongue in class. There are so many things dying to escape my mouth, but they'd just be more trouble than they're worth

The part of our education system I dislike is it doesn't really teach people how to think for themselves anymore. It's more about spoonfeeding them opinions. It's become more like 1984 than we probably all appreciate.
If you have a different opinion on something, find a way to express it politely. Your entitled to it. It's what college is about. Being an ass about it throwing it in someone's face won't help, but finding a way to express it politely will get a conversation. In that respect its just like LARP. >winkI've taken plenty of courses since I started working. I've often found that the material that gets taught in the ivory tower schools has nothing to do with reality. I generally don't beat the teacher over the head with it publicly, but will discuss it after the fact with him/her to point out the inconsistencies. do it privately at first to guage the reaction. If they are a complete idiot and take it as a personal offense, you'll have to consider another approach. (like saying the hell with your GPA and chiding them in public!)
I agree w/ them, definitly find a way to work your view into things. Everyone benefits from multiple perspectives. And on a personal level, I'd really love to hear which of the dogmas you disagree with and how (as an educator myself who has a habit of 'running amok' at times). If you're willing, I'd appreciate hearing your view.
1. Chewing on your lips/cheeks and wringing your hands under your desk are less likely to give you a headache. (Speaketh the girl who took two psych classes and TWO creative writing classes at Smith.)
2. No surprise, I'm with you on the "more trouble than it's worth" side of the fence. Most of the time, you'd just be banging your head against a wall of stupidity. Everyone would get all touchy and defensive, and as irritating as it is to hear them vocalize their opinions, it's that much more aneurysm-provoking to hear them try to defend themselves. So I'm with you on that, kid.
(I was going to digress here into how you should never feel you CAN'T disagree, evaluate each situation and see if it's worth the trouble, etc. But that falls under the advice category, and you didn't really ask for that. You know all this stuff already, I know.)
3. For what it's worth, congratulations on being back in school.
