It may be that originally it was something else, but not today. It's one of the denominations within Christianity.

"Protestant" is not a denomination. This was precicely the arguement Adam and I had. "Protestant" refers to about 500 different denominations. It is a broad term used to describe all of them from Jehovah's Whitnesses to the Church of England to Baptists and everything in between.

Kind of like "American" describes people from Alaska, Alabama and New Jersey.

It's funny--I had a conversation with Lurch about religion that afternoon. The deal with Judaism, in my experience, is that no organization represents the place of the Catholic or Orthodox churches. We all just follow various denominations. Outside of Israel, anyway. In Israel, I think Orthodoxy is the state religion but 90% of people practice a homegrown Zionist variant. It's weird.

It's linguisticly imprecise but an accepted way to refer to a particular set of churches within Christianity.

We can argue angels on the head of a pin as much as we want. The reality is a group of people refer to it as a denomination withing Christianity.

Heck, its all mythology one way or the other. Religion is just another political tool to control people who lack the self-motivation to take responsibility for their own actions and would rather explain it away ws the "devil's work" and some false pretenses that they can pretend to repent for their sins in a confession and all is forgiven. If they did something, they should own up to it. Period. End of story.

RANT! RANT! RANT!
