Ok I've been thinking...don't laugh....

I've been contemplating going to church. I was raised Catholic but I never got confirmed because I didn't agree with the Catholic faith. I have never "lost" my faith in a higher being, but I haven't been around an "organized" faith in awhile. My husband doesn't really "believe" and I'm definitely not going to ( Read more... )

I have been to churches that are accepting and open, but haven't settled in yet to any one church. It's hard to choose. I'm not a fan of organized religion, nor do I go for a "denomination" such as Catholic. Church is church, and God is loving of all of us. If you wind up being ridiculed because of you or your son, that's their problem. I have Cerebral Palsy, and know full well what's going on in churches who don't accept me for simply walking in the door.

Just be on guard. Don't get in over your head too fast. Start with simply saying, I have a special needs child, and see what they say. If the comments appear to be negative, leave, no questions asked.

If you feel support, lean on that. I pray at home because people suck when I walk in the door. I've been beaten down so bad, I am not in the process of getting up.

And just FYI...I am gay, white, and disabled. Two of these automatically make me a freak, and the race? Well, some hate me for that too.

All the best, and keep me posted.

This is not weird. Well, it's kind of weird because I've been thinking THE SAME THING! I always thought it is important for kids to be raised with religion. Even if it's only so they know what they are talking about when they say they don't believe.

I've been thinking about going here.

Stephanie is getting married by a Unitarian minister. She's like us as far as her beliefs. She's totally loving the minster and already wants to join the church! (The one she met with wasn't this church, but one in Bowie.)

Do you feel pulled to the Christian faith/s? If not, why not try exploring other faiths. Buddhism, Judaism and various pagan religions (including Asatru, the original faith of the nordic peoples and the faith that I follow) all accept, to varying degrees, people who are not traditionally mainstream.

Either way, good luck with your journey. Being open to all religions, I'd love to hear how you progress. Oh and give Owen a hug for me too! :)
