Geek Question alert .... UPDATED
ok.  So I'm connected to the secure wireless network, no problem.  It's an NTHell cable modem via a D-link Acess Point.  This (Dom's) computer is connected to it just fine on IP 192.168.0.100 using DHCP and ipconfig tells me the gateway is, unsurprisingly, 192.168.0.1.  However - My computer fails to get an IP ( Read more... )

Are you suggesting that the modem, or the AP are locked down to certain devices defined by their MAC?

I presume I'd have to log into the config to figure that out?

If the AP was filtering by MAC address, wouldn't it just refuse the wireless connection in the first place? I can connect to the AP etc, it fails at the point of assigning the IP.

I don't seem to be able to log on to the AP anyway, so it's a somewhat moot point :(

I'm rather impressed that I actually understand your question above. This past week I've been struggling to get my own internet connection and wireless network up and running and I've had to learn a lot.

Sadly I don't know enough yet to be able to offer any help...

*waves* hello, I've ditched my old username of interior_lulu and I'm now souldier_blue - it would be really lovely if you would re-add me even though you hardly ever post anymore, but still...
