I've been watching this History Channel series tonight. I like it, but I think the tone is a little bit off. It treats the degree to which the Earth would recover from our passing as a tragedy, whereas I take comfort in the fact that we can't really damage the Earth as lastingly as we think. That's how I feel, too. It was here before us, it will survive our passage.

Of course, being a scifi geek, I have hopes that we will get to migrate off planet and found new utopian existances-with transporters and replicators ;)

I completely agree. And in fact, like all species, we probably will go extinct eventually, and I'm not even particularly bothered by that.

I saw part of the series and was a bit freaked in the way (to me) it came off almost as if the extinction of the human race would be a good thing.

Well, not for us, but... y'know.
