Then there's that time he opened for the Stones and I had to stand there for way too long listening to all his new material without any of the old stuff I actually know.
The way I see it is that Dylan no longer feels burdened by the need to be anything to anyone, so he just does whatever the hell he feels like. I don't always like it, but in general I approve of people like him (Alan Moore and the late Stanley Kubrick also come to mind) getting to do that, and enjoy it when it results in something I like.
