How many books do you own?

Between anach and I, probably >5000. The library catalog is stalled at around 4300, but that's missing a largish swath of the non-fiction and any books bought since we moved (a year ago).

What is the last book you bought?

Well, a friend and I went on a book-buying spree a few weeks ago, and I think the last one on that trip was one of the Susan Conant dog mysteries I was missing (curse you, almeda!)

What is the last book you read?

I Dare, by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller (rolanni and kinzel). I felt like re-reading Liaden books. So I did. All of them, and the three chap-books I have.

Name five books that mean a lot to you.

Tam Lin by pameladean

A tie between Memory and Komarr, by Lois McMaster Bujold. The first for the wise things it had to say about keeping going even when things look blackest, and the latter because many of the descriptions of Kat recovering from her marriage resonated with my recovery from my residency.

So You Want to Be a Wizard by Diane Duane. I read it when I was about the age of the protagonist, and it's stuck with me since then.

Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A Heinlein. I was raised in a moderately restrictive Catholic household and went to an all-girls school from ages 12-17. I read this when I was 13. My head exploded.

I'm sort of running dry, here, because the way the question is phrased leads me to try to identify books that have had life-changing, or at least life-illuminating, impact. There are an awful lot of books and series that I've read over and over, that I enjoy, and some of which resonate to certain times of my life (Valdemar, Pern, Darkover, the Deryni books, anything by Robin McKinley), and that I would cheerfully press on others, but I'm not sure I'd go as far as "mean a lot to me". At least not in isolation. Now in terms of providing the mental wallpaper for my life over the last two decades or so, yeah, but in aggregate more than individually.

Now tag five people to provide their own lists.

I'm two weeks behind again, so I won't tag anyone - you all probably saw it two weeks ago. If, however, you haven't done it, feel free.
