I wholeheartedly agree. I believe CC was very true to the characters and the basis of what The X-Files is/was all about. It was never happy; it was always creepy, sinister, clever, intelligent, sarcastic or maybe sometimes humorous, but never "happy". And rightly so, as you listed some of the sad incidents in these characters lives plus 1 dead daughter, 1 son given up for adoption, and so many others, and I think this movie in a way showed how they had been able to move past all that, or really, learn to live with it, since they had each other. And the show was never about the villains; an episode may have focused on one, but Mulder and Scully were THE point of the show as a whole. I personally was happy with we as fans were finally and gratefully (on many fans' parts) given. But, I also did not go into the theater expecting something, since it was The X-FIles, so you never get what you were expecting anyway, so why try to figure out what CC has planned? Would have taken all the fun out of it for me, so I went in blindly and am still

Glad to hear your opinion. It's nice to know that I'm not alone on this one. I know I'm not, but it feels like I'm in the minority even among X-Philes. They may not have panned it as badly as the press reviews did, but in generally I'd say probably 55% of them didn't like it either for some degree of the same reasons.
Very true, and it's such a pity. There was so much to like. And the acting, at least the title characters, was really amazing, especially GA. So they can't say GA and DD fell down on the job; they played their parts like no time had past and like 6 years had gone by all at the same time. Impressive in my opinion. But, maybe I'm biased? Even so, everyone I saw it with really enjoyed it, so I know it's not just the two of us!
