So, on the Aleutian Ballad In addition to the crabs and fish, they pulled up something else.
They pulled up these barrels with holes cut in them.
We all thought, what could be in there? So one of the guides went in and looked...
And pulled out this guy!
The crowd all said eww. And here is a better shot of his cousin who was in the other barrel.
The guides said the octopus likes to get inside the pot, eats his fill of crab, and leaves again. They are able to capture these in the barrels because of some prongs on the main opening and the holes are just to small for it to escape. They released it back into the wild and that was our close encounter with one of siriel's favorite critters.
