So some of you may have seen the cover released for X-men: xenogenesis #3. I stopped reading Marvel ages ago, and it seems to be for good reason.
When I saw it, I had to reel back in horror- not only is the entire pose a big pile of DERP, along with posing Emma Frost like that fork is meant to be a substitute for the male reader's penis... but the anatomy. OH GOD, the ANATOMY (oh the humanity!).
Here, have some helpful redlining:
As my notes on the picture point out: first thing that hits me: MONSTER HIPS. I mean, I think 75% of her mass is in there! And there is so much mass there, those toothpick ankles are going to snap the second she stands. Her boobs apparently are flatten against some invisible board- the top curves don't match the bottoms! Or the sides! Apparently she's also missing a brain, because SHE HAS NO FOREHEAD. W. T. F.
I tried, also, to red line what a normal human being might look like in that position.
And suddenly I understand why I knew I was never cut out to be a comic book artist. Because I may have an imagination, but even I'm not creative enough to pass that off as a (good!) human body.
