A week in....

NaNo is very much like schoolwork. I know this because I can look around and see that the house is spotless, my toenails are painted, all my songs on i-Tunes have appropriate cover art and my phone's buzzing with unanswered messages because (put on sanctimonious voice) I'm working. Procrastination is a very handy thing for me, everything else in my ( Read more... )

I know what you mean. NaNo is lumped with my school work. LIke 1 hour on NaNo, 1 hour on that report I have to write.
Im not enjoying my main character either which hasn't ever happened to me. She's so annoying lol. Wow but looks like you are way up in your word count. I'm falling behind.

I'm sorry you're having the same issue as me re irritating characters. Then again, I'm also perversely glad I'm not the only one! I feel so hijacked by the characters, like they keep going places I don't want them to go. Such an unruly lot!

That's sad news to hear about your characters. Maybe after NaNo is done, you can spend some quality time getting to know them and hacking their characters to pieces, then rebuilding them of course. :)

I totally understand that urge to procrastinate in every way possible when it comes to work. I hope that your muse strikes and makes this project much more enjoyable!

Yeah, right now all I can think of is getting to 50,000 words and then dumping this story as quickly as possible. The biggest problem is I have another story idea that I desperately want to write, but I'm stuck!

Still, I think I'm learning a new skill in just dumping out a mass load of words regardless if they're any good or not.

Thanks so much for the support!

:(

Sounds sad not to have any fun while writing.

Last year, I was kind of pumped about "submitting" for NaNo. I had three stories that I'd been mulling over, picked one, and in the whole month wrote zero words.

If that's not some kind of record I don't know what is.

Anyway, I hope it gets better as you go. You're bound to get to know your characters at one point. :\
Whiney is so not what I associate with your characters, so this confuses me a bit.
Eh, eh. :)

I'm rooting for you.

Yes, it IS sad! I don't want writing to become chore, it's my chosen hobby, not something I'm forced into. Wow, zero words! Actually, that takes quite a bit of guts in my opinion, I wouldn't ever have been able to do that.

Haha, I have so many whiney characters! You didn't think Charlie or Talia were whiney? I totally did. Although not as whiney as Ellie. Gah, the sooner I can dump her into my 'random ideas' story folder the better.

Thanks for the message, you're definitely fulfilling your role as supremo supporter!

You wouln't have had the guts to utterly fail?
Yeah, that must be a talent.

I'm serious. I can't not do something when I've decided to do it. This often means I'm locked into something I don't actually WANT to do during my leisure time. If that isn't a mark of absolute stubborn stupidity I don't know what is!

so remember that bit about taking Murphy off you hands... I never intended for it to be quite so literal. The bastard has run amuck this weekend, ill never forgive him for the gorgeous boots he ruined on my first night out in them and I wont get into the limping that went along with it, the soup spilled on all over by a new waitress while out on a date, flash rainstorm while walking across the parking lot to my car an hour after going through the trouble to straighten my hair or the falling into evidence of secrets you were never supposed to find out... and dammit he better pay my parking ticket ( ... )

Oh hon, that's no good at all! What a comedy of errors. I love the 'falling into evidence of secrets' line, though, very intriguing. Intriguing from this side of the fence, obviously, when you do find out things you weren't supposed to know there's no going back. During my stint with Murphy I had quite a lot of that and kept walking around muttering 'You can't un-know things, there's no un-knowing things'. Yep, you can definitely wear an 'in it for the anecdotes' t-shirt after that night.

Who can we set Murphy on? There must be someone doing war crimes somewhere who deserves some comeuppance!

I've officially hit the very silly stage with NaNo. Because I hate the story and I hate the characters I'm just making it as silly and improbable as I like. Kind of fun to not have to worry about it being something a 6 year old would cringe at having written. My reward when I hit 50 thousand words will be stopping the stupidity and starting a story that I really, really want to write.

Boy if that's a reward then this must be real torture for you... or is it the vanity that comes with the creative mind? Your next work should be quite brilliant then, as it seems that my own best work comes after some serious folly. I am quite intrigued though and kind of want to request a read through of it...

Murphy has since gotten bored with me. Thankfully. Though I am nervous to put that in writing as he may stumble upon it and find a challenge in it... and I couldn't bear a one-up of the latest episode.

Wooo! *random excitement*

Haha, vanity, that's what it is! Still, let's not get too excited about my next project, it doesn't necessarily follow that it will be any good. I can, however, say that it will be better than my NaNo project, but that's not saying anything.

I'm happy to shout 'what's that behind you?' at Murphy so you have time to run away if he pops up again, just let me know.
