We're especially proud of the falling down fence because it matches the one in our actual backyard for structural integrity.
Brilliant! I think the roof was especially well done! Are those marshmellow flowers in front of he house?

Man, I haven't made a gingerbread house in years! Probably cause I'm not a big fan of gingerbread in general. This picture makes the whole process rather tempting!

Cheers, the roof was all me, while the marshmellow flowers were my housemate's work.

I can't believe you don't like gingerbread, I'd live on the stuff if I could! You should definitely make a gingerbread house again, it's so much fun. You get to finish, step back and then go, 'um, what now?'

Gingerbread house making will be on my wish list for my holiday vacation! Thanks for the inspiration. There's just something about cinnamon and ginger that doesn't appease my pallet.

I saw someone mention that they put candy glass windows in their gingerbread house. How awesome is that!?

Yay for inspiration, but sad for cinnamon and ginger not being your cup of tea. Still, gingerbread houses aren't really for eating, they're for looking at proudly!

Wow, go the person who got so into the decorating of their gingerbread house. I didn't even have a proper piping bag, I just used a plastic bag with a hole in the bottom!

That's such a cute gingerbread house! I wish I was doing something Christmas-y/holiday-themed like that...instead I'm stuck studying for finals :(

Good luck with your finals! What an annoying, yet strangely appropriate, time of year for finals. I send you a Gingerbread house in spirit.

Oh wow my friend was just trying to convince me to help him make a gingerbread house, because he can't bake. I told him that he should buy one but they were all out.

I like yours though, maybe I'll stop being lazy and make one from scratch too. :)

Do it, do it! It's freakishly easy, but looks like it was difficult which is the way everything in life should be.

Sun, did you say? Sun?
Oh, yeah. Right, Australia. Bloody freezing here, I tell you. We've had our first snow fall a few weeks ago and we're expecting a second tomorrow.
But, I do agree. This time of the year is wonderful, although freaking cold.

Yep, sun galore here (mixed in with some extensive flooding, but you can't have it all I suppose). Snow seems like a lovely thing from a distance, but I'll take my sundrenched afternoons on the back deck over the cold any day of the week.

Yay for this time of year and the approaching holidays!

I'd rather have sun too. And we don't get much of that. And we don't get much snow either, just more than usual this year. Well, Britain's isn't renowned for its wonderful weather, I guess. And we still hardly get a white Christmas. A friend of mine is going to New Zealand for Christmas and she’ll be sunbathing whilst we’re all huddled round our fires, avoiding the snow. Pff

You know I've never made a gingerbread house before... at least not that I recall. Did you make it from scratch, baking and all? I kind of want to make one of these now that you've reminded me of my failure at being a child (first carved pumpkin: 1 was nearly 20 yrs old, and it was a tiny pumpkin at that, smaller than football)... I wonder if my architecture background would aid me at all? most likely would end up being a venture of over-complicated-uh...ness. Ugh. I'll have to find a recipe...

Yep, made it completely from scratch, the only thing we didn't do is grind the flour ourselves. Oh my goodness, not carving a pumpkin makes you a failure as a child? Then I failed hard because this is the first gingerbread house I've ever made and I've never carved a pumpkin.

Your architecture background would definitely help. Straight lines have never been my friend (as you can see from the front door on the above!), whereas I'm sure you could make a full on gingerbread mansion. I'm fully in support of you making a gingerbread house, share the awesomeness!

I made an honest attempt to attempt to make a gingerbread house but the day I planned to do it (the day after christmas) we got hit by a blizzard and I didn't have all the necessary ingredients. And I won't have more free time until sometime in late January and by then it may be too far past the holiday to feel up to it. Who knows, maybe I will be even more excited to do it then as it will serve as procrastination to the Project I will be commencing. Shrug. I wrote a post about said Project just now so if you are interested check it out. Anyway should the time be available and inspiration strike, I will post a pic of it.

Haha, now I feel like the gingerbread house monitor! A Boxing Day gingerbread house preventing blizzard sounds like a very worthy excuse. I read your post about the books you're planning to read and actually swore out loud when I saw the list. That's mammoth! Good luck, I hope you enjoy it and don't come to see it too much as a chore, there's some seriously awesome books awaiting you. Happy New Year!
