I really don't know where to begin. I'm really in a rut, even though my friends are trying to help get me out of it. I want to burst into tears, but am trying my best not to ( Read more... )

huuuugssss. don't doubt yourself over this. it happens. we get stressed out and things happen. best thing to do is to make it up as best you can. Even if the absolute worst case scenario happens, it's not the end of the world.

a lot of "teachers" absolutely suck at teaching. this is why I used to play games in most of my high school classes..and why I generally only take brief notes or work on homework on my laptop in most classes now. :D

if it's any consolation, I almost failed my HS AP Physics class because the teacher was a douchebag and I just wanted to sleep/play in his class. (I'm surprised nobody's fired him yet...) In college I got straight As in even more advanced classes. :D

And I think you should be seeing Nick more often! I get stressed around exams and things and it just helps to be near someone that's emotionally/educationally supportive. It doesn't help to get all stressed and pissed off and burnt out right before exams. A balance is necessary :)

I'm so sorry. This is how I feel (to a lesser degree, of course) about my math course. I've always done fantablulously in classes, and this semester it feels like work, work, work for only okay grades on exams.

Interestingly, a math genius friend of mine is having similar issues with one of her classes. Maybe the planets are aligned against maths this semester?

Obviously the issue here is teaching, right? You don't just go from being a straight A student to not even passing unless you stop putting the effort in (clearly not the case with you) or the teaching is subpar. I mean, I know first-hand that Maths is impossible without a good teacher. My dad (a Maths teacher himself, and an awesome one at that) had to teach my brother and me A-level Maths at home because our teachers were just so pathetic. I would assume Physics is much the same ( ... )

Because I'm in a foundation year complaints on the foundation year teachers are like.. well, they don't go through apparently. Leicester Uni has the top Uni Student satisfaction score IIRC (least, last year) but I don't think the Foundation year is included in that. The Foundation year is like.. well.. you are a Uni student-- but not. It's aggrivating!

I made the plan to dedicate this weekend to studying and revising, or least trying to. Dan is free on Saturday so we're going to try for some early morning and late night revision. As well as this afternoon (though, I'm starting to feel sickly for some reason atm. So I might postpone it.) :S Damn PMS...

I think I might go to the International office and ask them if there's anything I can do. I got decent grades on my Maths SATs, and in all of my Maths/Physics classes. I really feel like I'm being put in a disadvantage here. :/

that sort of thing happens during the first semester of college to me and many of my college friends... ESPECIALLY in engineering. professors that doesn't teach (or one with so thick of an accent you can't even understand them!), crappy grades, hard materials... you just kinda get used to it and learn to study independently. in some of the classes i took i end up never going to class because i can't learn anything from my prof... so i just learn by myself from the text book :/. that's engineering for you... i guess?

good luck JESS! YOU CAN DO ITTTT!!!
