I think my ancient iPod nano may be on its last legs -- one of the buttons on the click wheel isn't working today, but I'm not sure if it's permanent. So I'll need a new one of those. Luckily, I don't care about anything fancy or huge storage capacity

Have you heard about the recall on 1st gen Nanos? You may be able to get it replaced:
