You guys! Over the weekend, my parents were doing some stuff in the attic, and found my treasure box from high school. Such a trip down memory lane! I'm going to inventory the contents here, for posterity? It's all bananas, but pretty much confirms that I am the same person I've been since I was 13.
MISC:
- Colman's Mustard tin of potpurri. I bet it was part of a Christmas present.
- Wooden pop-gun toy.
- Valentine card from my father
- Cartoon cut out from a magazine: two women saying, "It's so nice to have someone to talk to... About everyone else."
- Random cool picture of dandelions in a bottle -- I'm sure I didn't take it, not sure how I acquired it.
- Mostly unused sheet of JESSE stickers.
- Blank notebook (unused)
- Awesome sheet of doodles
- Empty package of chocolate cigarettes
- Two mini decks of cards, one from the San Diego Zoo.
- Hershey's Choc-U-Later: A calculator made to look like a Hershey's chocolate bar
- Plastic flies (??? I mean like bugs.)
- Mardi gras looking plastic beads
- Couple of books of matches, lighter from Florida
- Couple misc. toys, multi-colored confetti
- Couple of pens, pencil sharpener, erasers
- Coin from Jordan -- where on earth did I get that?
- Childhood gold bead necklace. Barely fits around my neck now.
- Jewelry box with a hilarious mix of high and low -- gold cross, string bracelet with beads spelling out my name, Rainbow Girls charm bracelet, a zillion little earrings for the back piercings, some milagros, misc. rings, and more.
RAINBOW:
Rainbow is the Masonic organization for girls, so there was a LOT of paraphenalia...
- Laminated card saying I'm a member of the Grand Cross of Color, and a formal invitation card to same.
- Napkin from the collation after my induction as Worthy Advisor (in my colors, light blue with dark green print).
- Mini lambskin apron (I think we wore it over our hand?).
- Photos from some Masonic formal -- a Demolay event, maybe? From when I was dating a boy who was in Demolay, and I was eventually crowned Demolay Sweetheart! I still have the tiara, even though I was supposed to return it. Recently saw the boy on Facebook. Have no idea who the other couple in the pictures is...
CAMP:
- A strip of paper, apparently from camp in 1987, with "anonymous" comments from I guess my cabin-mates? I have no memory of any of this. Here's what they all said about me:
"She is kind & caring, good imagination/person who'd you'd want to tell prob. to. Understanding. Jesse I ♥ youre ages" (ed. note: that can't be what that says, but I also don't believe she wrote "you're aces," either.)
"You are always understanding like when I took your towel and left it at archer. Or how you let me try on your dress. You are just so nice to me and I feel kinda guilty that sometimes I'm not that nice. ALSO your tan is savage. I WANT IT."
"Jesse, even though we haven't been the best of friends, I think you're so calm, laid back and wicked nice. I also wish the sun in did to my hair what it did to yours!!" (ed.: It turned my hair super brassy...)
"You are so nice. You seem to know lots and lots of people. You probably get the best guys in school." (ed.: HAHAHA.)
"Friendly. Talkative. Great tan. Outgoing. Makes friends easily."
"Funny + great bed partner."
- Another shorter one, with no date:
"Very kind. Understanding. Sweet. Awesome. You don't have a lot to say, but what you say, everyone listens to."
"You've always been the best of the bunch. (truth.)"
"1 of the nicest + kindest loveable people I know."
"Jess Love ya the most (?) for being there. Miss ya."
- Letters from 1991 from one of my best friends from camp, including her prom picture, and a little card that says, "Good friend are for keeps!" and inside jokes on the back. The great news is, I have seen her in the past year or so!
- Big group photo from summer camp, in high school, I guess?
- 1991 letter inviting me to staff camp after I graduated from high school. Didn't do it, kind of wish I had. I'm sure there was a reason I didn't, but of course don't remember what it would have been.
HIGH SCHOOL:
- Newsprint exercise, apparently from a church youth group retreat led by my mother. Among other things, it lists "Some things I'd like to do in the future (fantasies)," for which I put (1) finish high school, (2) act in a school show, (3) be able to think beyond school. I have never been good at picturing the future! My mother wrote "kind" as an adjective for me, and someone else added "of silly." Hee.
- Ticket stub from a 1990 high school play I don't even remember, "Museum." That was after I stopped working crew for the shows.
- Ticket stub from 1990 Revels.
- Ticket stub from 1990 Handel and Haydn Society "Messiah"
- Ticket stubs from either basketball games or track meets
- Red Cross certifications that I took CPR and First Aid in 1990
- Cambridge Public Library card
- Random photo of a cute boy from high school -- I think my friend stole it from the photo club or whatever.
- Letter from a prisoner -- I know, right?!?!? My friend and I wrote to a personal ad in the National Enquirer and corresponded with this guy (and/or others?) for a while. So crazy! I don't know why this one came to my house, because I distinctly remember decided to give them her address, because she could always get the mail first AND she lived in an apartment building, which we felt was more secure, should the guy show up someday....
- Picture of me with friends getting reading for some event.
- Post-it note with a boy's phone number -- actually his cousin's number, since that's where he was staying temporarily.
- Paystubs from being a cater-waiter in high school -- $30 a pop.
- Employee ID from my first real job at BayBank -- my hair is out of CONTROL.
