Existentialism and Phenomenology, is that like philosophy?

Existentalism relates to the philosophy of the individual and questions the existance/relevance of society's established values. There's more to it than that, but those are some of the main points.

I have some prior knowledge of existentalism, but don't really know anything about phenomenology. The professor didn't say much about it today. To my understanding it has to do with believing that only that which we see really exists.

Sometimes a teacher can make a class more enjoyable or can ruin the learning experience.

Totally. I've had teachers get me totally into material I had no prior interest in, and also teachers that just killed my confidence and desire to succeed. They really can make or break a class.
