Summary: If you could wish for anything, what would you wish for?
“Are there lots of stars where we’re going?”
“Of course. I’m pretty sure we would be able to see shooting stars too.”
Yixing blinks his eyes open, his lids moving lethargically. He realizes he is lying on something cold and rough, his bruised faced pressed against it.
“Yi..fan,” He breathes out, slowly pushing himself off the ground.
Silence.
He can smell asphalt and smoke-gas too, before he takes a deep breath and uses all of what’s left from his strength to stand up. His body was aching all over, and he coughed violently as he falls on his knees just after taking three steps. He shakes his head furiously, as if trying to wake himself up, before he lifts his head up and sees a car upside down with several parts of it on fire.
What makes him get on his feet, however, wasn’t the sight of the wrecked car infront of him.
It was the person inside the car.
Yixing almost stumbles again, but he forces himself, ignoring the headache which was like splitting his head into two, or the many scratches on his face and body, to get to the car.
“Yifan,” He whispers again when he reaches the car, looking around for people who might be able to help them, but panics when he sees none.
“Help!” He finally shouts, going around the car to get to Yifan’s side of the vehicle.
No one answers.
“Anyone? Help us, please!” Yixing slams his palms on the car in frustration-almost on the verge of tears-kicking and screaming for a few more seconds before he realizes that no one would be able to help them.
They were alone.
Yixing finally lowers himself and crawls through the broken door, disregarding the pain that a shattered glass has inflicted on his right arm. He sees his backpack on the floor so he immediately reaches out for it, rummaging through it to look for his phone. When he does, he immediately calls for help, telling them their location, what had happened and screaming “now, please get here now” repeatedly before he hangs up and puts his phone aside.
He lies on his back, tears forming inside his eyes when he sees Yifan unconscious and bleeding, hanging upside down with his seatbelt securely holding him in place.
“Fan,” Yixing calls out, cupping the still-unconscious person’s face in his hands and slapping his cheeks lightly to wake him up. “Fan, wake up. Please.”
Yixing starts to shake Yifan, and only stops when he notices Yifan’s eyelids slowly moving.
When Yifan finally becomes conscious of what is happening, he tries to free himself from the seatbelt, groaning in frustration when the seatbelt refuses to budge.
“Xing, Xing I think it’s stuck it won’t-“
Yixing doesn’t let him finish and reaches out for the retractor box, pulling and shaking it with all his strength. Yifan helps him out a few seconds later, pulling with him, but still to no avail.
Yixing is now screaming, still pulling violently and banging the car wall with his fist in frustration.
Yifan turns his head and sees that a flame had started outside the car. He grabs Yixing’s hand and pulls it away from the seatbelt. The younger looks at him in confusion, but even before Yixing had the chance to open his mouth and ask, Yifan had already started speaking.
“Xing-ah,” Yifan starts, staring straight into the younger’s eyes. “I’m sorry. We only needed to go a little further until we reach the ocean. I’m sorry I wouldn’t be able to go there with you and make a wish.”
Yixing’s forehead creases in confusion but as soon as he understands what Yifan is saying, he shakes his head furiously-eyes watering. “No, don’t say that. We’re going to-“
“No, listen to me,” Yifan cuts him off. “You have to get out of here. I wouldn’t be able to get out anymore. But you would. Please. You have to live-for me.”
“No,” Yixing answers. “Please, baby. Anything but this. I-I promise not to forget anymore of our dates or expose you to our friends. I will change, I really will. Just-please don’t give up on me. On us. We’ll get you out, okay?” Yixing wipes his tears away with his forearm before he reaches out again for the seatbelt, but Yifan stops him.
“You don’t have to change anything. You’re perfect. And I thank you for staying with me all throughout,” Yifan whispers, cupping Yixing’s face in his hands. “When I see a shooting star, I’m going to wish that I can be with you forever.”
And with that, Yifan closes the distance between the two of them, pressing his lips to Yixing’s. Yifan shuts his eyes tightly. He doesn’t want to cry. He can’t cry. He was Yixing’s only source of strength right now.
When Yifan pulls away, he smiles and ruffles Yixing’s hair before whispering “go.”
Yixing was shaking his head stubbornly when he feels someone grab his legs and pull him away. “No!” He shouts, grabbing on to Yifan’s hand as he cries out loud. “No! Yifan don’t do this to me please just-“ Yifan bites his lip as he grabs Yixing’s hand and frees himself from the younger boy’s grasp.
Yixing shouts louder this time, with more tears spilling from his eyes. “No! No, let me go!!” He shouts, kicking and clawing whoever's arms it was who was pulling him away.
“Yifan!” He shouts. “No, he needs me let me g-“
Yixing is silenced when he catches Yifan staring at him. He smiles one more time and Yixing was so very sure to have seen his lips forming the words “I love you,” before a huge flame consumed the entire vehicle and everything just exploded.
The explosion spews out an enormous plume of black smoke, parts of the vehicle went flying everywhere, the people around him began shouting, but Yixing was still just staring blankly infront of him.
Unable to speak, unable to move, unable to cry.
“Really? Then.. I’m going to make a wish! What’s your wish going to be?”
Yifan only smiles.
