Wow. Fifty-one years. That's a long time. It's unusual these days to find marriages that have lasted that long.

It is sad. I'm unusual in that my parents are still together. They have been married nearly thirty years. It's due to perseverance as much as anything. Most of my friends have parents who are either separated or were never married in the first place. I do think a stable marriage is the best environment in which to bring up children.
