Vegetarians

Conversation overheard at lunchtime today at Baby School, about a baby whose parents want to raise her vegetarian:

Jeannie: Can vegetarians eat cereal?

Sheila: Yeah, they can eat cereal.

Jeannie: Oh. But then she probably can’t eat eggs, right?

Sheila: I don’t know. Some vegetarians eat fish and chicken.

Jeannie: What about breast milk?

Wow indeed.

I will say that I was less well informed about vegetarians and protein sources before my sister went vegetarian for several years. But I did know enough not to sound that silly. I hope.
