Lazy Words in Writing

I have just read the above article about the use of weak words in writing. Some words on the list seem a bit ridiculous to me....but what do you think?

It isn't the words, it's how you use them.

Agreed. Any word can be overused or used perfectly sensibly. For instance, I realised today that my latest draft had an excessive number of oak trees. Now there are three mentions of oaks, plus a birch, a horse chestnut and a yew (not to mention the limes and conifers that had been there all along).

'Oak' is obviously my subconscious place-holder for big tree that can obscure clues and/or people.

Oh the silly man! Those words are essential - it just depends where you put them. As for not using 'got' grrrrrrr I suposed he'd prefer 'gotten'.

Yes, I was surprised not to see 'said' in the list.

"My God Holmes! " Watson ejaculated". Lol.
