There have been a veritable butt-load of meme's on Facebook lately. And nearly all of them ask something about your name - what it is, what was it, what would you want it to be. Mostly inane questions. But it did get me to thinking: People take the naming of children very seriously. People take their own name very seriously. It's sort of strange

this is a great post! i'm glad you brought it up, and your own story is so delightful. you know my brother wanted to change his name at about the same age. it seems everyone has the desire to at some point or other - even my sister changed her preference at a point; she for a number of years has been introducing herself by her full first name after years of being called by various shortened versions of it
