The internet certainly has been a vast contributor to how people think of communicating and gathering data. Also before it, people were amazed with the advent of the radio and television in news reporting and public information. Also I saw on one of the superbowl commercials last night that Vizio is offering a tv that is advertised as being internet connected. This shows how integral the internet has become in everyday life.

I also think the internet had a lot to do w/ the advancement of technology. If we think about it most things that are considered new media today can be or are connected in some way with the internet. My blog also talked about the constant change in technology. I like the idea "The internet was "made" to be a network for sharing, and I don't think anyone expected it to become such a vital part of the lives of people." I think you are right. No one expected it to become this huge.

I completely agree with you about how the internet has consumed some people's lives. It makes me cringe when people go insane if they can check their email right away or complain about how no one has commented on their new facebook picture. Yes, the internet cannot replace reality completely, but it certainly can change and manipulate the real world. It makes you wonder about those people who committed suicide because some one "cyber bullied" them on myspace. Would they have been that much at risk without the internet? Or in a way, did the internet directly cause them to act in such a way?
