Except the application fee and a little time spent on the applications, why not apply to them? I tried for Mt. Holyoke and Mills, and they're hella hard to get into. I didn't get in, but it was worth trying.
I think what really matters is that if you can see yourself actually being happy going to a school and you want to go there, then you apply. Don't bother applying to places just to apply if you wouldn't be happy there. That's all of the advice I really have. I personally didn't like BU or NYU, but NYU mostly because I don't like the New York atmosphere. If you want any more thoughts about either of those schools, I have notes I took and pictures and some College Prowler books on them.
