I heard about it when he was killed... was absolutely horrified. I started writing a novel about homophobia and everything... then sort of stopped it thinking, "This'll be obselete anyway..." I've thought about him and his family since then, though- and didn't know they had a site for him and had set up an organisation- it looks amazing. I totally dig his Mum for getting out there and doing all that- not only has she gone through what she has, she's turned around and spoken back and is helping other people... shit, some people amaze me...

when I heard about it, I got the shakes. I just couldn't believe how somebody could do that to such a special person. People are sick.

I'm with you with the whole digging his Mum. It's so brave... and totally courageous. I know some mothers who would just fall apart if their child died, but she went out and did something about that.

I really wanted to see the movie they did about Matthew, but I had to work that night and our vcr was on the fritz. I probably would have cried my eyes out anyway. 8-(

It's horrible when ignorant assholes can't accept anything or anyone different.

I remember when it happened, the newschannel that broadcasts to schools reported on it and there were assholes in my class who cheered and said it should happen to all the "faggots." I just sat there and sobbed, which seemed to shut them up more than if I had started throwing punches. All I can ever think is how easily that could be my brother, and how senseless it was.

People are fuckwits. I can't believe some had the gawl to say that...

I remember not too long after it happened- it didn't hugely hit the headlines out here- but I remember seeing a doco about teen suicide on SBS- all three kids they looked at were gay, and their suicides had been based around the shit people had given them- or the shit they thought they'd cop if they came out. Absolutely heartbreaking...

It is heartbreaking. ANd yet there's still people that will swear you choose to be gay. Fucked up.
