Take Back the Reins

I've been thinking. It's dangerous, I know.  But in my usual fashion, my mind has been busy cogitating and cogging, like the innards of a clock. I'm constantly thinking, but never arriving at solutions, just going in circles. My writing is the face of it.

I would have to agree with you here. I think that the Republican Party resembles the current state of "country" music in that it appeals to the lowest common denominator and presumes that everyone listening is ignorant enough to swallow it. That's why I am so angry about McCain's choice of a running mate--he must think that the women who would have voted for Hillary Clinton (and I wasn't one of them, regardless) are pretty stupid. Wave another figure in a dress in front of them, and they get distracted. It's like one of those country songs where the lyrics could have come straight out of Chicken Soup for the Soul. When you listen to this music, you feel queasy, like you're being cheated or insulted somehow just by having to hear it. "They expect us to believe this?" It's like being in some weird, Orwellian parallel universe where the public's acceptance of this crap is taken for granted in advance, so they don't even try to make it good. That said, I'm a far left liberal who finds a lot to disagree with even with the Democrats, but I' ( ... )

Yes, I'm looking forward to a Dem president too. Even though I'd rather be Independent, the fact is that if everyone who isn't Republican doesn't join together and fight it, we could have another Repub president (though McCain isn't as bad as Bush Jr.) and I'm really ready for a Democrat one. To spin the out-of-control pendulum back in the other direction. And to gain at least a little confidence and maybe a hint of friendship from other countries and citizens of the world.
