 Annika's party was a success. I survived the cutting of the fruit. My dad managed to do the two most important tasks, and forget everything else. The kids enjoyed the scavenger hunt and the piñata, and spent the rest of the time playing in the creek. Nobody thought it was tacky to have her party 1.5 months early. i have a similar problem with the craft stuff. i pulled out a lite brite set for maya that has been on the top my my closet for years (my mother gave it to her when she was WAY too young for the little pieces) and i was clenching my jaw to stop myself from saying "don't just stick the pieces in the holes! follow the chart!" ditto the color by numbers set she got for her birthday that she colored with all the "wrong" colors even though she's perfectly capable of following the instructions ( ... )

I'm glad that the party went well!

Letting go of control is hard. It's something I work on all the time, too.
