What is the PROBLEM??

Again, in the breakroom at work, a co-worker is telling me about how she's a clean freak and has 5 vacuums. Fine. Then she utters the following sentence:

"My boyfriend tells me I work like a n*gger. Like I'm paid to be there or something."

She looked around before she said it, making sure the 2 black women who work in the building weren't around, and ( Read more... )

Fucking A.

A girl that works for my site recently used the world when describing a section of Atlanta she was stuck in.

"Are you fucking serious?" was my reply.

"What?"

"Do you have to use that word?"

She honestly had no clue what she'd done wrong...and that's the part that really sucked.

It makes me really sad when it doesn't even dawn on people that the word is offensive. I mean, are they fucking retarded? Seriously!

Like we were in the same I'm-White-You're-White club or something.

this happened to me once, and it was also at work, but the guy was saying shit about "mexicans". racist white people really do show their ass when they think they're in a safe zone with other whites. i remember it was difficult for me, because on the one hand i wanted to know just how racist these guys were. so i wanted to just listen to how bad it got. i'm curious about why people like this think the way they do.

but on the other hand, i feel the urge to immediately let it be known i think what they're saying is fucked. this is the option i chose in the aforementioned situation.

martin lawrence does a bit about this in one of his concert films (pretty sure it was "you so crazy" from 1994). you could view it as your typical "white people do this, black people do that" sort of material, or you can see it for just how much truth is in what he says. i agree with him, some white people do say some funky shit when they're in groups with one another.

Whenever I delve deeper into why people think like this, it makes me so pissed off that my brain starts to liquefy. The reasons are usually so stupid, and yet the person is incredibly convinced they're right!

It mainly makes me sad because my nieces have heard stuff like this their whole lives, and they'll keep hearing it forever. :(

i went ahead and asked these guys what the problem really was. you know what it boiled down to? "when they're speaking spanish to one another, i think they're talking shit about me."

that was it.

I always found this phenomena to be completely bizarre/horrid. So many times when I was working as a waitress and some other server would complain that "n*ggers never tip," I was so tempted to lie and say I was half black, just to shame them. Instead I just told them that they were full of shit and instead needed to brush up on their serving rather than their racism and went on with my day. I was so glad to leave that place.
