...that's days in the school year, in case you don't know....
Well, I survived the first day.
All in all, it went better than I thought it would. I didn't get to a few things I was probably supposed to get to today, and I think I left out a few key components of the curriculum, but I did have one kid tell me today was the best day of his life, and another one told me that I was not just nice - I was super-nice!!
So I think I have the kids on my side, for the most part. The one whose file reported a history of behavior problems acted accordingly; the majority of them are not too keen on staying in a line in the hallways; and they haven't quite got the hang of the sitting quietly concept yet...but if I'm picking my battles, I'll take these. No one's gonna be still on the first day of school.
For the record, I don't believe that I-told-you-so's are in order - I was petrified, and justifiably so, in-my-humble-opinion. I'll surely be less petrified tomorrow, but I've still got a long way to go before I consider myself even remotely comfortable with the whole I'm-in-charge thing.
At least I know I'll sleep a little better tonight, if not for lack of nerves, than out of sheer first-day exhaustion.
Miles of thanks to everyone who sent support and good wishes. Good to know you're rooting for me.
