So in my spare time (yeah, right) lately, I've become decidedly fannish in creating new icons. I've even joined a couple of icon-sharing communities and swapped a few other peoples' icons. The newest one was definitely in-the-moment mood-based.

And all of this is nicely covering up (temporarily, I imagine) the fact that my new teaching gig is absolutely kicking me in the ass. I feel the need to fall back on a few mantras - some ideas (ideals?) that I need to take to heart in order to survive the next few months:

  1. you knew the job was gonna come with a huge learning curve. so it's been a whole lot curvier than you expected. just breathe.
  2. there are people who are willing to help you. you just need to find the right time to ask.
  3. no one expects you to know everything after five days of school. despite understandably high expectations from the higher-ups, you do have some leeway to get yourself together.
  4. you do not have to get to school an hour early and stay three hours late every day. and even if you feel this is what you ahve to do now, it will not be like this all year.
  5. you have to make time to eat during the day. at least once. having lunch at 3:30 when you never got to breakfast is just not healthy. and being overly hungry only makes you grouchy, which doesn't help you or the kids.
  6. you must sleep. see above for rationale.

baby steps...baby steps...baby steps....

*sigh*
