I feel very torn right now. I have the one I have chosen to spend my life with on one hand and the one who has been both a friend and a confidante on the other. I know that my loyalty should lie with Michael, but not when he's asking me to give up on Chris. I know he's a screw up, but I love him anyways. No, it's not fair for Michael to make you choose. You should be entitled to friends, no matter what their gender. But could it be that Michael is jealous? Not in fearing that you are cheating on him or are going to leave him, but because you turn to someone else for that emotional connection. Not that you're wrong in anyway, but he probably wants to be there for you in that capacity and it probably hurts when someone else is there in his stead.

I don't pretend to be an expert by any means, but perhaps you could try turning to Micheal when you would instinctually turn to Chris. Or perhaps wait to deal with Chris's issues when Micheal is not around. Just to show Michael that he is #1 and to prevent damaging his fragile male ego.

It's more than just being jealous because I can deal with jealous. It's the trash talking and blantent rudeness he adopts when it comes to Chris. The sad thing is that he's picking on Chris but never had issue with Ben or Jacob (who I was also very emotionally close to). Plus, if it's the whole calling in the middle of the night thing, Frat Matt called me at 4 AM the night of his car accident because he "just wanted to talk to me."
