Ranwan Fanfic Library part 2

After having written down impressions for 50 ranwan fics (this alone attests to the immense intensity of my attraction to this ship!), I've written another post to continue the list of ranwans I'm reading. There's also the next post 3 of fanfic impressions out and about.

Marked my ultimate faves there with emojis and re-reads, yet even at the very moment as I'm writing this, I keep returning to the awesomeness of Absolute Zero. That one would pretty much sum it up for a ranwan of my dreams. Add to that some delicious smut - and there's the perfect recipe.


Numbers: are for accounting purposes only, listing the titles as memory goes.
Be warned: the list, kinks and likes here are as subjective as can only be imagined, so please be wise, use your own discretion and guidance.

1. cursed by devilsoupe
   There hasn't been a fuck-or-die trope written so heart-wrenchingly exquisite before. Regularly I'm not even a fan of that trope, but here - with the setting the author chooses for the guilt fest to overwhelm everyone readers including! - it's the model story to write these sorts of tropes. An ultimately delicious treat.
   
2. A Newer Wilderness by sealdog
   It's this very top notch of bittersweet you might ever encounter. Postcanon ranwan cuddles, only 0.5 CWN makes an appearance once a year. One year, he's bound to meet TXJ again. This is so powerfully written - even for all the omissions in the text and no detailing of the actual reconciliation between 0.5 ranwan - wish I could read about that more extensively. Leaves the reader shook and teary-eyed in a very philosophical mood. Ah, ranwan's happy endings!
   
3. nothing can consume you by tagteamme
   Pirate!MR and merman!CWN. Really. As if there's any AU I like me better than that with a pirate Mo Ran💙 At first I was equal parts excited and frustrated with the probable xenophilia approaching as I do not like interspecies relationship FOR THE SHEER TRAGIC POTENTIAL they usually omit for sexy times - and yet the tragedy of a merman and a human, a human and a winged fairy/angel, a human and a centaur - you name it, the list of interminable angst goes on and on.
   
   However the author truly delivered the best possible solution for such kind of an AU and therein ranwan sexytiemz happened in their very much human forms for which I'm real thankful - relieved me of so much angst! MR's pirate identity as TXJ - ah! Could literally read miles and miles of text about these shenanigans of theirs. Would continue perpetuating pirate!ranwan agenda until a dream fic happens. Until then - much grateful for this one.
   
4. catharsis by SeleneIlene
   Omegaverse is my guilty pleasure (funny how thanks to this fic I've learnt that the term itself isn't widely used in the Western community labeling it A/B/O instead) which only gets guiltier and more pleasurable should an author introduce male lactation into it.
   
   This did not happen in the fic however (but we can assume may happen behind the scenes), but the very premise is written beautifully into the tumultuous erha canon with MR going in and out of TXJ phase, CWN trying to save him, saving him, yet not being able to save himself. A treat.
   
5. A Lingering Sweetness by theherocomplex
   ❤️💜💙 OH BUT I'M SO GONNA WRITE IN CAPS FOR THIS ONE. BUDDHAS AND BODHISATTVAS, THIS HAS BEEN THE SINGLE MOST IDEALEST BEAUTIFULLEST & BESTEST RANWAN INSTALLMENT IN THE HISTORY OF EVER🔥❤️ I'VE NEARLY ASCENDED🌟😍🌌 THE WAY MO RAN WORSHIPS HIS WANNING🔥🔥🔥 THE WAY CWN FEELS FOR HIS MO RAN. THE WORDING, THE ACTIONS, THE PERFECT FOREPLAY. IDEAL...
   
   ...And then the author writes the final and IT GOES INTO A COMPLETE UTTER WRECKAGE. THE READER IS WRECKED AND THEIR HEARTS ARE POUNDED INTO STARDUST. THIS HAS BEEN THE MOST TREACHEROUS USE OF THAT TROPE THE AUTHOR USES FOR THE FINALE.
   
   So this leaves the reader in the perfect torn-apart state in the end. For one, here it is, the sheer pure ranwan of my dreams, the essence of ranwan, its heart and soul, Mo Ran written in the one right way an ideal Mo Ran is to be written, and Chu Wanning's feels all out for him.
   
   And then, the author does what they do, and the reader has to wonder WHY. Why did the author choose to do this, to turn the perfectly ideal ranwan into an angst fest ESPECIALLY after having enabled the readers to experience pure heaven in written form. Why. WHY.
   
6. Bitten Necks and Billowy shirts by firehearts & weepingwillowss
   Ranwan set within an enemies to lovers scenario🔥 This is incredible. Fencing suits them WILDLY. One would think this trope overused - but you'd rarely find a treat such as this one. The transition from hate to love here is deliciously unhinged, the smut scenes - overwhelming in the best way. The one before the mirror? Oh dear dear *hyperventilates* Everything about their inner angst and torrential emotional torments here is so precious and beautiful. And the setting only adds to the horny.
   
7. A Field of Fire by Rielle97
   But ranwan are designed for such case stories! The fic is wondrously scenic, each scene is like a painting - so vivid and emotional. So bright. There's that scene where CWN gives up control over Tianwen and transfers it to Mo Ran. And has Tianwen tie him down. And MR accidentally questions him things. Why, this scene is SO BRILLIANT!😍🔥 A prize catch. Such a glorious confession, dynamic and full of purest feeling.
   
8. 3799 miles (apart and all I can think about is you) by firehearts
   A mostly plot-centric modern AU where ranwan are journalists and MR goes on a trip to investigate the Rufeng case while CWN stays (and worries to the Moon and back). Heavy on self-esteem issues just the way we like it. Some delicious kinky moments are clearly deserving expansion but the author only hints at them.
   
9. Unsullied by d_ecrease
   This is literally the first 0.5 I've read that didn't evoke negative emotions but was instead quite moving and profound. CWN's interactions with TXJ and more importantly, TXJ's (re)actions. And then there's 2.0 and MR wakes up from a nightmare and CWN is there by his side and it's all fixed. A serene and delicate story, a peace for the soul.
   
10. In Search of Understanding by samariumwriting
    MR and CWN get stuck in a mountain cabin while the road is blocked by the trees that fell during the rainstorm (funny how I envisioned the event took place during a winter snowstorm - but then they went swimming in the lake). MR swims in the mountain lake, its moonlit waters creating the Atmosphere. This is the sort of special fic that every pairing needs. They kiss eventually. Myself, I didn't get enough of CWN's POV here, more of his angst and yearning would've done even more good.
    
11. my thatch roof is ruined by Aminias
    Went there for the tags despite the content warnings. A promise of tentacles and DP? (Would be a sad revelation if it's not DAP though). The text is written in a manner particularly excruciating to read. It's rural pastorale but feels like you're drawning in a swamp. Very difficult to get through, so it's no wonder not everyone gets past the first 6 chapters to the 7th, which is. Its own miracle.
    
    It's glaringly different from the entire fic before it. It portrays the single bestest scene of CWN masturbating in the history of ever. The most accurate, believeable and DESPERATE🔥 Yes, DESPERATE in caps, because it's wild. Insane, anguished, SO PERFECT. Haven't met such a dramatically ideal wanking scene before. Incredible. Nothing in the text before it promises such a treat.
    
    Am yet to finish reading the rest, will update this paragraph then.
    
12. I'll take the verdict, 'cause I've done the crime by devilsoupe
    Now that's been one exquisite canon divergence in here! HERE BE SPOILERS! MR figures about the flower on his own, CWN leaves seclusion and is caught by TXJ. MR enters the scene as CWN's servant / spy. Delicious revelations ensue. MR's sorry and realizes things. CWN is afraid to believe the paradise is real. Also Ye Wangxi is the rational queen.
    
13. stay, hold me down, mold my body to the ground - and i'll make every sound for you by sweetsweetdays
    Shizun!MR and his disciple CWN learning about bodily urges. Please heed the archive warning. The underage is there for a reason and it IS disturbing. Mainly for the fact that the consent here is vague at best and CWN is not aware of what's about to happen and how. At the same time the handjob is wildly sensual and epitome of resolved horny. A poignant treat.
    
14. burned by liars' gold by idrilka
    So wholesome🔥 So good. Canon-divergent, tender, absolutely delectable CWN's POV. Kinky adventures in the Ghost Realm, a show for the Fourth Ghost King, and then canon-compliant goodness. Contains the best description of an absolute unit ever: CWN cannot even look down to watch himself do it, but his throat goes dry when he realizes that his fingers do not meet once he wraps his hand around the girth of Mo Ran’s cock.
    
15. under this honey lake of sky by sealdog
    Modern cultivation AUs are not my choice generally, but this one has been beautiful in the way a disaster of ranwan's first meeting then started developing into a relationship. Guess the 'feeding the groom' part at the wedding has been particularly tear-inducing for this reader. The heart goes out to CWN, and master Huaizui is a patented troll.
    
16. Loose ends by everyearning (noctiphany)
    Was quite reticent about starting yet another bdsm ranwan especially with a premise of CWN posing as a model for a fetish photographer MR. Turned out it's very different from the picture the description paints for us. In fact, I've experienced intense "Loveless" vibes here - if only they ever wrote for LL the way this story goes! Maybe someone did, write, I mean: such a profound experience for two that all but screams LL's System Activated vibes, a battle Pair of a Fighter and a Sacrifice learning their limits and control and commands and obeying. Truly, where all those fics were when LL fandom was yet young and full of hopes.
    
    But I digress. This story explores the concept of subspace in a mighty delicious, tender and kinky manner, and the way it's written makes it essentially a dream fic on the matter. Also I've read it when it was marked as finished and yet the final chapter was definitely not the last one. SM made his appearance there and oh was it a beautifully vicious cliffhanger! It honestly asks for just as much text to be delivered afterwards.
    
17. you can love me, if you really want it by devilsoupe
    As much as I love me a bodyguard AU when applied to ranwan shenanigans (always gotta be moar of those fics!), the ending still left me yearning - probably for more details of all the coming to terms process. The case when a change of POV happens every once in a while during the text would've been so beneficial. Also some traits of MR's personality here I really didn't like but this is like super depending on each particular reader, these impressions.
    
18. only fools (spin pain into love) by raplinesbabe
    A soulbond AU that's like super angsty! And CWN really goes out of his way for MR (although, when does he not?) The finale was especially powerful: CWN lets go of MR, despite all the revelations and even the red string of fate, leaving him space for his own decisions to take form. That is, after MR has unknowingly tormented CWN with great gusto and continuity. A reader's heart goes out to CWN SO MUCH in this story!
    
19. The Most Important Rule of Internet Safety by Honestmabe
    Business Development... Sales... and Marketing... - or BDSM in a nutshell XDD
    CWN meets MR via a dating app. Horny ensues. CWN is very confident about his desires here, very mature and adult about his wants and needs. The bath scene with petals and candles is my fav - bath is often featured as aftercare (in those rare fics where it appears at all!), but here it's pretty much the foreplay, and it's sooo good!
    
20. way back home by meownings
    A story of ranwan's divorce - modern AU with such a perfectly bittersweet taste that leaves the reader shaking in absolute bliss. Craving for more emotional rollercoasters like this one. The epitome of painshipping, misunderstood intentions and crying thy eyes out and into a wondrously tumultuous happy ending❤️ Really needed me a distraction and a reason to cry for something other than the happenings of the real life around me atm (writing this mid-March'2022).
    
21. My Heart Remembers the Way Home by purloinedinpetrograd
    A 0.5 canon divergence AU [SPOILERS ARE HERE, PROCEED WITH CAUTION] where CWN removes the flower from TXJ and survives the ordeal. The rating is nearing M, not really E. It's very bittersweet and sad, CWN is without his core and ill, and yet the ranwan reunion is so... Methodical? I lacked the emotional wreckage of the both parts here. It would've certainly painted a more profound picture of our fav painshipping.
    
22. Change by nairin
    Ranwan as dragons. CWN teaches MR to meditate and then MR manifests his dragon traits. Also CWN's dragon is a lady. Eggs ensue. Guess you should have a kink for dragon mating to truly appreciate this.
    
23. Coffee, Tea, Or Me? by heartbeatangel
    And this is where you can never for the life of yours even begin to expect a coffee shop AU to turn out so incredibly, overwhelmingly frustrating. The way Mo Ran is portrayed here is not just obnoxious - it's downright appalling. An exasperating case of harassment probably meant to inspire giggles and cuteness - it inspires nothing but sheer horror! By God. One would never expect a coffee shop AU to be so traumatic a reading.
    
    There're many ways the authors choose from when writing their understanding of Mo Ran and his character. This one here is hitting the "please don't ever again" part of my personal scope of fictional Mo Rans. And he's not even being TXJ here! Which makes the whole ordeal even more wicked.
    
24. the waves come after midnight by serpentinerose
    CWN's adventures in his Death, a solemn bittersweet symphony of CWN's tragedies, one that leaves the reader both teary-eyed and yearning and yet ridiculously happy for knowing that ranwan would fix this afterwards (although not in the story itself). To cry good and much. MR pleads with CWN's souls to take him home. CWN awakes cocooned in MR's arms.
    
25. break these bindings, set me free by winterism
    So I went and read pure 0.5 smut (where TXJ feeds CWN an aphrodisiac). Am quite distressed about this, oh well, another proof that 0.5 in its epitome makes me mighty sad instead of horny. A great fic for 0.5 appreciators.
    
26. just a broken parable by devilsoupe
    Where CWN takes the flower and becomes the emperor of the cultivation world with MR is his faithful bodyguard. Loved this story much more than I expected - it helped me figure a very important trait of a perfect ranwan fiction I appreciate most of all - that is, a story about Mo Ran in love💙 About Mo Ran realizing his love. Knowing his love, cherishing it, centering his world around it, suffering about it and treasuring it to the Moon and back. And beyond. Yes please gimme moar Mo Ran in love and perfectly aware of his feelings🔥 So precious. So painful. Like a premise to a larger lengthier story, this one.
    
27. skin you with my tongue by dumbhusky
    Went there for the ABO, but alas. Not my cup of tea, unfortunately. Totally do not like such anatomical takes in my neat ranwan ABOs, thank you. Moreover it's set in such a promising mob boss AU, oh dear! The sheer potential. Also contains a wild and kinky somnophilia scene (which is very, very specific and might be a squick. For me it's both, ugh, much sad).
    
28. Shall we dance [RU] by dietrich_vl
    Each ship needs their ballet/dancers AU, and after the majestic "Black Number" (a 79 spin-off of the "Songs of a Wayfarer") I've grown partial to those. However the sheer amounts of cussing here may not be everyone's choice for an accurate Mo Ran characterization & POV. Ye Wangxi however is absolute queen, although this is not a fic about her. But a queen she is.
    
29. So what's your response to this? [RU] by Black Flowers
    ❤️❤️❤️ An absoutely precious, delicate, heart-wrenching teacher-student university AU where CWN is sure MR pulled a prank on him with his confession and then it turned out there were no pranks involved. A rain, an umbrella, and delightful, bubbly reciprocation. Uhh 🥰
    
30. Between Pear Blossom and Haitang by sentient_wren
    For its inconspicuous title this fic truly hides a gem of most poignant angst underneath. A modern AU where CWN gets in a car accident and then a knife fight to stop a perpetrator, yet MR is convinced he deliberately left SM to die. There comes the aftermath filled of dealing with injuries both of body and heart - and oh, it's written deliciously. A stellar walk of knifes for the reader. And oh does this walk take long!
    
    There'll be a time later in the fic when MR sees CWN's neck scar for the first time and starts realizing things, and then realizations hit and and hit and hit him mercilessly. A beautifully catastrophic awareness awakens, and MR has to deal with the consequences of his own bitter hate and brutal actions it enabled. Scenes of wicked bullying peppered with later scenes of understanding slot so perfect together. The fic sorely needs more of MR's POV as it's what best strikes the deal.
    
31. Catharsis by orphan_account
    For the best fic in the entirety of the existing ranwan fics this story is ridiculously underrated and deserves a x100 more kudos at minimum. And to think that the author had to orphan it for some reason?? While it's literally the best fic in ranwan's existence? HOW COME?
    
    Makes me wonder what the story was behind the author abandoning it because here I'm not kidding: this fic is. The best🌟 It somehow outweighs almost all the other ranwan fics by its sheer existence. It is thoroughly recommended to read it after encountering a particularly gruesome specimen of a badly written ranwan fic. This fic heals scars and wounds, and clears skin, and improves one's qi flow, and clears the meridians.
    
    It's a heart-warmingly PERFECT post-canon, and the smut here is above and beyond and a blessing in itself - for us to be living in the same world with the author, to be graced by their smut-writing skills and their ways of writing THE BEST RANWAN LOVE AND FEELS EVER🔥❤️🔥

    Post-canon, where CWN realizes his hands ain't beautiful because they're scarred and maimed from all the technical work and inventing he does. He consistently becomes ashamed of MR seeing them, a little misunderstanding and reconciliation ensue.
    
33. love's a two-edged sword by devilsoupe
    Where CWN regains his 0.5 memories after returning back to life. And thus firmly believes MR is only caring for him because of the imprint, as a result of CWN's soul-splitting technique performed back in 0.5. Not because of some feels, as that'd be impossibiru. A wondrously painful premise delivering all the beautiful angst and revelations possible, so delicate and emotional that it even made me see the whole TXJ/CWN differently (and oh how it multiplies the pain!) and with much more empathy and sadness than before. Truly an eye-opener of a story.
    
34. Remedy by SilverStark
    A postcanon mpreg all of soft wonder and fierce and tender purpose. The feels are written so beautifully and with great care. Also featuring a 0.5 case of miscarriage and abuse that postcanon ranwan are fixing with their love.
    
35. always be sore by Aminias
    Year of the Cock who? The only cock out in this house was Chu Wanning’s and, he wasn't happy about it. Fast and rough pwp featuring CWN with Bichen Huaisha. The author's descriptions for wild horny desperation are truly one of a kind. Heart light and pants tight, their language is a thing of beauty.
    
36. ink burns in the night by AriWrote
    A tattoo parlor AU. Left me wondering. If any reader ever dared ask the author a question of. Why. Why do they write such a model OOC CWN that can ever be imagined under the Moon. And how. But why. The author writes the erotic details with taste and elegance - and yet the very essential foundation of the fic, the reason behind its happenings - it's such a grand colossal OOC of CWN that it hurts. It hurts. Who can even imagine CWN willingly undressing before numerous (!) unknown people and letting them manhandle him. Numerous. Sweet baby Jesus eating pineapple pie, why did I venture here. The experience.
    
37. like a flower waiting to bloom by sixtheen
    It's small but SO HOT. Also, SPOILERS! SM gets caught and MR runs to check on CWN's well-being. CWN ends up inviting him into Red Lotus Pavillion for other disciples are about to bully him as SM's ally. MR's been recently whipped by CWN, and to protect his wounds CWN shares the bed. MR's hard and takes the matter in his hands. CWN listens patiently (and probably also comes untouched from sounds alone). Gods, that's been so ultra hot🔥 Love me these sorts of scenarios dearly.
    
38. Flower Seller [RU] by YeliangHua
    While the fic features most of what seem inherent ficwriting bugs typical for the site it's hosted at (like the copious use of substitutive synonyms, a strangely coquettish censorship of curse words and more specifically the misuse of Chinese names and surnames aplenty) it's still somewhat cute although the abovementioned peculiarities may make it a difficult read. The OOC in full bloom is certainly likely to act as a deal-breaker.
    
    The premise of the story is very much surreal but one may try suppressing the sheer disbelief for the oncoming romcom purposes: CWN hires MR for an escort - and MR turns out the owner of that escort enterprise just chilling around? A very cinematographic trope, why XD What I'm thankful to the author for is the hammam scene where MR gets them both off pressed together with the use of his huge palm (altough the consent part is vague to put it mildly).
    
    For some incredible reason I haven't met this particular palming scene in none of the other ranwan fics I've been writing about here? Like, how come?! It's so awesome, and precious, and sensual, and I wish each fic sported such a scene!
    UPD: discovered a less detailed depiction of such a scene in tagteamme's "mutual agreement". Why is it so rare!
    
    UPD-2: upon re-reading the story I must say I've been a tad too favourable of it in my review above. The OOC about both CWN and MR is so potent in here that not even a hammam can save it. So it's a one time experience - and even that is only possible unless you haven't read much of good non-OOC fics prior.
    
39. when I let the water take me by devilsoupe
    This mermaid fic does not in fact feature merfolk shenanigans but very human ranwan instead (albeit with remnants of their merfolk abilities) - and I liked this unorthodox take a lot! A lone fisherman's shack on the shore, the eternal Longing, a song of regret and forgiveness and acceptance. This very trope of "I don't know who you are" spoken to the face of your all-time beloved you do not remember no more. And then you do.
    
40. White Robes by mugshot
    Crying like crazed😭 This is one absolving and cleansing and hella painful experience leaving the reader shook. CWN takes the flower. This fic features the SM/CWN I've been looking for ever since I'd started reading 2ha's very first chapters. And the author delivers. Probably the only way and shape of this bitter scenario that makes complete sense. Horrible and so exquisite about it.
    
    And then there's MR here, fated to realize things in the fashion Chu-fei did in 0.5. MR's story here is heart-breaking to the point where you don't really see MR suffer this much in any other story, not even in canon probably. And MR's in love. The sheer hell of him being the knowing, 2.0 version since the very beginning! The ranwan here is so far the most hopeless and powerful installment of a star-crossed never-to-come-true pain😭😭
    
    A preciously terribly tormenting read, would require tons of healing fluff and happy-endings afterwards. "Just a broken parable" would be just the needed sweet fluff of the same canon-divergent idea in comparison to this massacre.
    
41. Shizun, relax a little bit [RU] by Nuoba
    Modern AU where CWN gets a certificate to visit spa and MR is a masseur there. Massage sessions ensue. Lots of rubbing and caressing and aftercare and OH GODS THE UST! The sheer intensity of it. A truly sweet pwp scenario.
    
42. and no one could sleep by devilsoupe
    An elegant canon divergence set in 0.5 where CWN's attempt to heal TXJ end up in the same persona-switching mechanism we see applied in post-canon, only reversed. Now MR 2.0 makes his appearance every once in a while. And it's so bittersweet and good and full of reciprocated love, and even though we know how 0.5 ends, MR 1.0 wakes up with all his memories intact and knowing CWN loves him (thus this fic effectively fixes erha's main plot).
    
43. Risk and Restraint by purloinedinpetrograd
    It's amazing in terms of how far one's expectations of the story and the story itself got diverged. I've been fully expecting a feat, 90K of delicious goodness with a wild feels galore. Instead...
    
    Half of the fic made me feel sort of a second-hand embarrassment - at Mo Ran, or at author's choices of themes and scenes to depict, who'd know? But it's really the first fic I've wished would just please end sooner.
    
    And the premise to warrant the smexeh times - falls apart, sadly. We never know why the curse goes away the way it does, what triggers it, what's the whole deal with HBN, is Shi Mei there acting as a professional matchmaker because his brother told him to (but for what reasons?).
    
    As for the pwp part - oh, that's been difficult, unfortunately. Equal parts of my delicious kinks heavily mixed with most unpleasant of squicks. A wild brew to read through, part time you're yearning for more, next moment you're screeching to end that. Well, not my cup of tea, probably I indeed expected something wildly different from this.
    
44. the rest of our lives by 3799steps
    BY GOD. PLEASE. READ THE ARCHIVE WARNING. READ IT TWICE. THRICE if needed.
    
    There's an author's note before the fic that's likely to confuse you that the mention of torture is the scariest past about the fic. That's not exactly so, the said mention is literally TWO WORDS.
    
    And then, I've talked to people who read this fic. A number of us there is. Those who yearned for a fluffy soft post-canon smutty ranwan so much THEY'VE ACTUALLY MISSED THE ARCHIVE WARNING. So here we are. This one is a killer fic. You should only proceed with reading it if you've accepted a night of bawling your eyes out. Otherwise it'll leave you mercilessly shook and broken and in desperate need of endless fluff and happily ever afters.
    
45. heart between your teeth by ranwan_s
    'slight victim blaming' as the author oh so mildly puts it. BY GOOD GOD. BEWARE! Prepare to run for your life and your integrity as a reader, as this is the understatement of the century. This 'slight victim blaming' would hit like a loaded truck at full speed.
    
    Here I was wondering if bdsm!AU (a wicked brew of A/B/O dynamics turning people into Doms and Subs by nature) was bad enough a deal breaker to begin with, but no, it's not what makes this fic an absolute disaster.
    
    It's when CWN nearly gets raped in a restroom at a public outing, SM saves him, hands him back to MR, and when MR finally gets CWN back at home... You'd think he'd try to comfort his Sub maybe? Try to calm him down, instill a sense of safety and peace? LIKE HELL THE AUTHOR WOULD.     I feared reading this premise bc of the tags and MR cheating. Turned out it's a beautifully sweet angsty story of growing up and owning up to one's mistakes. Very MR in nature, very sad CWN, misheard communications, wrong assumptions - all the good jazz. Also Xue Zhengyong is particularly majestic in here.

    Office AU, Mo Ran's POV for the entire length of the story makes it excruciating at times. The thing with ranwan here is that they cannot talk. At all. And it's way more painful than it should be. Gosh, I really cannot read the 'friends with benefits' trope, it makes me so sad. All this heart-wrecking "in between" time after their first time and until the final revelations are made and the words are eventually said.
    
    The smut is very varied, tutti frutti, but oh how I'd have loved to see a CWN's POV of it all. Him running away after their every tryst is the drama. Also made me wonder how on Earth did CWN even pull that feat given the sheer intensity of their (non)bedroom activities priorly? Superhuman much.
    
    Never before had I met a fic that'd be so emotionally painful to read because of the characters unable to understand each other. Makes the reader scream with frustration and inability to change the pace or the narrative. Quite a powerful take in fact, only you should be ready that it's likely to make you sad instead of horny.
