I just watched a show called "Root of all Evil?". It was a BBC production and hosted by Richard Dawkins, it's a good show and brings up some pretty chilling problems with the current Abrahamic religions. However, he said something at the end that I found quite affecting, whether I agreed with everything that came before or not.

The point you posted above ignores that people want to believe in an afterlife in part because they're afraid of what happens after they die. If we knew that we immediately whiffed out like a match, then sure. Make the most of your life, cuz that's all you're getting.
But, we don't really know. I can know what I think I know, and so can you -- yet nobody knows for sure, and we probably never will.

However, based on what we can observe I'd say the above is no more or less likely than a lake of fire and d00d with a tail.

I don't really believe in Heaven or Hell. I believe in a cosmic recycling plan, where our energy goes back into the universe. That's why I'm convinced everything has a sort of low-level sentience, and that photos in magazines can see you. (But, as has already been amply established, I'm weird.)
