Happy Chinese New Year!!!

Ahhh, growing up. Was it weird for Danette to bring home a boy? And how do you like the boy, for that matter? I used to see the emo (for lack of a better word) posts Danette would have on FB in my feed every so often, but now the posts seem to be happy, so I considered that to be a good thing. :) Where was James? <3

i've met her other boyfriends before, at my parents' house but i don't know if we've ever had a meal with any of them before, like as one collective whole. this is her longest relationship like 6 or 9 months, i think, i'm not entirely sure. he's alright, easy to talk to when i talk to him first. they have some common interests but they argue a lot about petty things and i don't know how long the relationship will last. did i tell you, he bought her a cello for xmas? yah.

her mood fluctuates so much depending on how the relationship's going, as you've noted. we don't seriously talk much about relationships often just because she's not capable or willing to talk to me about that kind of stuff but i hope she's happy.

james was working, and thus leaving me to defend for myself. booooo.

A cello?! This sounds serious! :) Haha. Well, I hope she's happy, too. Which apparently means I hope they don't break up...<3

I love how traditionally Chinese y'all are. We don't do anything special really. We all knew that going to Vegas for "Chinese New Year's" was just an excuse for my dad to go to Vegas, since we never purposely go anywhere on CNY.

How'd you like the bf?

it's funny how our family's traditions differ from one another. what's up with asians and their casinos and love for vegas? like i've said before, i hate vegas.

i answered mariam's question above too but for you:

"i've met her other boyfriends before, at my parents' house but i don't know if we've ever had a meal with any of them before, like as one collective whole. this is her longest relationship like 6 or 9 months, i think, i'm not entirely sure. he's alright, easy to talk to when i talk to him first. they have some common interests but they argue a lot about petty things and i don't know how long the relationship will last. did i tell you, he bought her a cello for xmas? yah."

I used to LOVE Vegas when I was small. Now, not so much. I think I liked going to different arcades and such. Now I'm too old for the arcades (although I don't think so!) and don't want to lose all of my money gambling. Plus I don't want to get drunk, nor do I want to go to the clubs. I just like eating.

Those Vegas people are smart, though. They knew all the Chinese people would be in town, so they had CNY-themed displays at Bellagio and MGM Grand. There was nothing related to Valentine's Day anywhere, except for signs that said to make your V-day dinner reservations.

Thanks, I will go read the rest in the reply to Mariam.

Oh, also, in regards to our Chinese family traditions: I once took a Multicultural Psychology class, and our final project was a Cultural Discovery Journal, wherein we either needed to discover a different culture from our own, or delve deeper into our own culture. I chose my own culture because I thought it was easier to just interview my parents, since they are right here. So I was asking them all sorts of things about what it means to be Chinese--various traditions and such. And both of my parents were giving me shitty answers and saying things like, "I don't know anything about Chinese culture. I'm not from China!" And they call me white-washed. They at least grew up in Asia, even if not in China. I was surprised by how quickly one could lose his or her culture. They've only been in the States for 27 years. But then again, they also cannot really cook Chinese food, which is a large part of the culture.
