hungry?

Recently some huge billboards along major roadways showed black-and-white photos of car wrecks -- gashed and mangled metal, clouds of steam and smoke -- all illumined under the luridness of fire, flares, searchlights and siren lights. The caption beneath the ads was as stark and grim as the photos: "Speed is killing us. Slow down and live."

"Consumption is killing us. Go fast and live"

You can sit on that one and think about it all day. That's a lot to take in right there. The whole point of fasting...I never really understood it completely since I have never fully done a "30 hour famine". The moment I feel hungry, whether it be 10 minutes or 12 hours, I eat. I always thought it wasn't healthy to do. I always thought that you should not do it when you are athletic or someone who needs food and water for their body. But then that defeats the point. Fasting was made so you feel what an empty stomach is and know you can't feed it. It's the feeling of dizziness and exhaustion. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Thats kinda what is going through my head. We take food for granted. We don't know what it's like to not have food, and when the time comes where we might not have food, we won't be prepared.

Awesome...Just awesome :)

last night I definitely felt God calling me to do one. I am going to pray about it some more and see when and how. :)

I've definitely always wanted to try to fast, because aside from what Jenna said, it's a way to remind yourself that God is in control - you don't rely on "bread alone" to sustain you, you rely on God alone for whatever period of time.

I've tried it a few times in the past, but I've never had the "fortitude" so to speak to see it through. I suppose it might be because I was mostly trying it just to try it, and it wasn't really very "real" for me.

I think I may try and do a fast this Easter. Not on Easter Sunday, though - too much awesome food for that! But I think I may try going Good Friday and, if possible, that Saturday.

Thanks for this, B. As always, very thought-provoking material.
