Life was so much easier when our only worry was that recess was too short...when decisions were made by rock paper scissors...only skinned knees made us cry...boys had cooties and goodbyes meant tomorrow. Now PE is something we can't wait to get out of, and broken skin brings a muttered curse while broken hearts draw tears. Boys are no longer an ( Read more... )

I again bring up this subject of faith. In that in those days of cooties and band aids that burned we were protected, shielded even from the real threats of the world. Not terrorists, or politicians, but ourselves. We're now growing up, and we don't have the luxury of curling up and praying that the pain will stop, because you can't always patch the broken heart, or the cracked mind. Your body, your soul, is a vessel that carries something more precious than any coodie, or recess session.. it carries what will get you through in this world. It's time that you become the force that heals you. A person is capable of anything that they set their minds to. This advice, this guidance offered by those closest to you is just a distraction, giving you information you already know. Almost reassurance. You know what it is they're going to say, but you need to hear it. Coodies, band aids, and recess were all a distraction, that one lasting spell-bound memory of childhood innocence that you wish you could go back to, but know that you can't ( ... )
